I'm toying with getting a 210 for my 5x7 and have noticed some Schneider APO-Symmar S lens for sale for well under $200. Does anyone have experience with these lenses? Just wondering why they are so cheap. I mainly shoot B&W but I do shoot color. Mostly C41.

I own this lens. A great lens. Use it on my 4x5 & 5x7. 210mm is a very common length & many were manufactured.

There is no Apo-Symmar S. The sequence of Schneider's modern plasmats, from oldest to newest, is Symmar, Symmar S, Apo-Symmar, Apo-Symmar L.

At the price, what you're probably seeing is a Symmar S. It's a very competent lens. Most late-model 210 plasmats with a similar specification (70 to 72 degrees coverage) are cheap these days, sometimes very cheap if the seller is uninformed and/or very motivated to sell.

Apo-Symmar that is. No "S" in the name.

I'm looking at the Symmar - S 5.6. With the 77mm filter size.

The Fujinon 210s are also bargain priced and magnificent performers.

Agreed, the Symmar-S line is great and can't beat the prices.

I've always had a symmar S and no matter what other 210mm lenses I test, I just don't see enough difference to let it go. It's a great performer and quite portable too! Some process lenses thro larger circles and are lighter, but that generally comes at the cost of a few stops...

I have the same lens and the 300 symmar mc. Incredibly sharp lenses. You can't go wrong. Best bang for the buck. I paid 200 for the 210 and 325 for the 300
