Looking for a longish (240mm to 300mm) portrait lens on 4x5 that would also effectively cover 8x10 as a landscape lens. The hitch - I don't want a large filter size because I use filters a lot in my landscapes and past 67mm is just getting expensive. I'm really out of my knowledge area here so would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks.

Kodak Commercial Ektar 12inch with series VIII adapter 2 1/2 - 63.5mm. 67mm filters screw right in.

Nikkor 300 M. Not a lot of extra coverage for 8x10, but it will cover.

305mm G Claron 67mm Filter. Good coverage, not too large (Copal 1) and a good performer.

Fuji 250mm f/6.7 should satisfy you but it does take 77mm filters. It's inexpensive so that would help a little with additional filters.

Add the 240 G Claron, 12" Dagor & 14" Artar to the list.
These would be worth checking out.

Alan - found some f6.3s online, but no 6.7. Just wondering.

The later 6.3's do not cover 8x10. The 6.7 is an earlier single coated lens with the letters on the inside around the glass. It has an image circle of 398 so it covers 8x10 with room for movements. They show up from time to time on Ebay and the forum. I paid almost $300.00 including shipping for mine. I've seen them go for less. Jock Sturges used this lens for his early work which he was famous for. http://onlinebrowsing.blogspot.com/2010/03/jock-sturges-danny-lyon-and-sturges-was.html I love mine but I settled on 77mm as my filter size.

Fujinon W 250mm f/6.7

Fujinon C 300mm has an IC of 380mm and 52mm filter but if you go for more extreme movements in 8x10 I'd consider the Fujinon A 300mm with an IC of 420mm and filter of 55mm. For portraits some people think the "A" series too sharp and clinical and others the "C" in 300mm a little soft relative to say the Nikkor M.

You could consider the Ilex/Calumet Series-S Caltar 8 1/2 in / 215mm f4.8, which converts to a 360mm, covering 8X10 in each configuration.
