Reason for post both are currently available, one is in shutter, one is not

How much coverage do you need? Nikon claims the 760/11 Apo Nikkor covers 583 mm at infinity. Goerz claims the 30"/12.5 Apo Artar covers 575 mm at infinity plus 15%. I'm not as convinced about the plus 15% as I'd like to be.

If 575 mm is more than enough think hard about the difference in prices between them, the cost of putting one of those lenses in barrel into shutter, and how much of a shutter you need. The cheapest way to get timed exposures with a barrel lens is to put it in front of a Packard. If you want shorter expposures than 1/25 or better timed exposures both lenses can, according to SKGrimes, be put in Ilex #5. I think this means they can also be put in a Compound #5. #5s' nominal top speed is 1/50, my Compound 5 does 1/40. The Apo Artar will also go in a Copal #3, but will lose 1/3 stop from f/12.5.

Thanks Dan
Guess neither will work
Need good solid corner to corner for 10 x 24

The Nikkor is a lot bigger. Consider the Apo-Ronar CL as well. More info here:: http://www.angusparkerphoto.com/blog/2015/2/ulf-lens-recommendations-14x17

What's the IC needed for that format?

A sq + B sq = C sq.
10 x 24
26 inch diagonal = 660.40 mm
I think this is correct

Thanks - too lazy to do the math myself. 14x17 is 560mm so this is quite a bit more. By my records the APO Germinar 750mm has over 700mm IC, the Artar 30" just 660mm and the Artar 35" over 700mm. Probably some old Dagor out there that can do it at the wider end as well.

I have a "ragged" 35 Artar, no retaining ring and the iris stuck about midway:)I will mess with that one a bit.

If you have that, you can put that in a #5 shutter (that has it's own iris) and be all set.

The published circle for the Apo Nikkor are relative to nitpicky apo dot repro standards at f/22. The circle for any typical taking usage at more realistic smaller apertures will be considerably larger.

Dave, I haven't had a 30" RDA in a long time, but seem to remember the corners weren't as good as the middle on 20x24 near infinity......10x24 might work fine though. I just shipped the new 20x24 and don't know when I'll be at the studio next to check coverage on the 760 Apo Nikkor. I will tell you the AN will be snappier than the RDA.

I have a 760 Apo Nikkor, but it's not mounted, so no convenient way to test quickly.

Dave, here are Montys comments on the 760 I bought from him:

A little soft at the edges at infinity on 20x24...not bad for Platinum/Palladium, and gone at portrait distances...
