View Full Version : Zinc air Z625PX battery for Luna-Pro no longer made?

I'm having difficulty finding this battery. As I recall, the "zinc-air" was used to keep the voltage correct? It was 1.35 volts. There are some 1.55 volt silver oxide available. Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks.

Also, it would be nice if we could search using only 3 characters, or if some database could be created... When I search, "625" doesn't work, and other searches bring up tons of threads. OR am I not doing this the correct way?

Hey neighbor. I can't really answer either of your questions but as a long-time Luna Pro user neither really applies. I installed a Gossen battery adapter a long time ago and never looked back. It wasn't inexpensive but it was a one-time fix that has never let me down.

The voltage being wrong does not affect the readings in a linear way, so just changing the ASA setting doesn't compensate. I had Quality Light Metric recalibrate mine for the higher voltage. Or you can get an adapter if you can't find Wein cells. B&H shows they have the MRB625 available. I think the original battery was a PX13, going from memory.

Amazon has the 625 Wein cell for $5.95.

It was more likely a mercury battery than zinc-air. Many types of old photo gear used mercury batteries because the voltage was very stable. Re-phrasing what Kevin said, calibrating a different voltage battery isn't very accurate. If you can get an adapter that is actually a voltage regulator, you will be happier.

Yes, the originals were mercury. And they were good for years. And bad for land fills.

There's a lot more mercury in all the CFL lights that were supposed to replace real light bulbs.

PX13 = PX625 as I recall. I should order some Wein 625 cells for my Luna-Pro. Thanx for the reminder.

...And bad for land fills.

That is precisely why I would never build my house on top of a land fill.

Put a methane alarm in the basement and you're good.

Thanks for the responses. For some reason, I never thought of B&H for batteries... And I didn't know that Quality Light Metric is about 10 miles from me... Thanks again.

I think QLM no longer has an actual storefront, you mail your meter to them.

It's 3 for $12.95 at B&H. Just made the order; Wein MRB625.
