Can a film coating machine alternate between film and solar cell coating runs?

,,,Can a film coating machine alternate between film and solar cell coating runs?...Yes, but, if it comes to that, for as long as Eastman Kodak is required to supply film to its cinema customers and Kodak Alaris (or chooses to continue doing so after respective contractual arrangements expire), there will probably be even more extended periods when specific film types are back-ordered. Product line volume and profitability will determine what gets coated when and how often.

Sorry to piggy back on this discussion.

But, you speak of Kodak's "contracts." What is/are the extent of Kodak's commitment to future production of MP film.

Clearly pro/sumer still film will end around the same time as the MP film [production] ends, because it is an even smaller market.

I suspect most of that is proprietary, anything said on here will be arm chair expert speculation. I will speculate that flex panel technology and demand is rising sharply as is solar in general as it gains traction as a truly disruptive energy source. So when profits are big enough and Kodak is even more stable, it could very well be that they really strike a balance between using the coating line for still and motion film products and everything else.

All we need to do it just keep using the film, I sure do...

Did you happen to see this today?

"A former Kodak factory has been demolished in Rochester, New York.
Building 53, which was previously used for the manufacture of negatives, came down in a controlled implosion on Saturday.
The demolition is part of an ongoing regeneration of Kodak's Eastern Business Park"

You can watch the video on the BBC web site.

It was used for making the acetate base material that Kodak now outsources just like Ilford does. Kodak does have a huge amount it stockpiled though.

Where does Ilford out source to? China?
