I just purchased my first LF 4x5 camera and now i got an offer for a lens.
its a Rodenstock MC Sironar N 5,6 / 210mm Copal 1.

I read already abit about lenses and from what i understand this one should be a good all rounder multi coated lens.

the offer is about 250$, it should be in perfect working condition.

is there anything that i should be aware of?
does this lenses image circle cover a 4x5 camera with all movements?

sorry if this questions are rudimentary but i just dont wanna make a mistake when buying my first lens~

thanks alot for all the help!

That lens will easily cover 4x5 with room for movements, and should be an excellent lens. That focal length would be like using an 85mm lens on a 35mm camera - slightly longer than the "normal" focal length (which would be a 150mm). Make sure the shutter is in good working order...

More like 60mm-equivalent, calculating by the format diagonals. But yes, just on the long side of normal.

thanks alot! i thought that 210mm would be like 105mm on medium format and 50mm on small format?

105 on 6x7 cm corresponds to roughly 51 mm on 35, 210 on 4x5 corresponds to roughly 60 mm - again, calculating by the format diagonals. Because of the different aspect ratios between 4x5/6x7 and 35mm, you'll get slightly different numbers if you compare horizontal or vertical fields of view. But the general relationship - 210 on 4x5 is effectively a bit longer - will still hold.

Anyway, it's a fine lens, and a good place to start if you're comfortable with a long normal. Enjoy! :)

And, it will be a fine normal lens on 5x7 when you step up;-)

Which is actually how I use mine. :)

long way till 5x7 :)))

i think i will be overwhelmed by 4x5 at the beginning.. been doing alot of MF but this will be my (almost) first LF experience.

i will mainly do people and portraits so i think longer normal is what i need :P

ps. is there a technical term for the lupe that you use on the GG for focus help?
what magnification is best for 4x5 GG lupe?

Best if you raise these questions as a separate thread in the "Gear" section, after checking out existing threads on loupes.
