14x20 holder specs

i have been asked to make a 14x20 wet plate holder. the client does not have the camera yet so he cant give me the correct dimensions.
does anyone have specs for a holder that large?

Contact whoever is making the camera. Historically, Deardorff made a couple 14"x20"s, but there is no saying this new camera will adhere to those specs. Hopefully Sandy King will weigh in...

There's no agreed standard for 14x20.

Glenn Evans says that "3 and 1/2" 14x20 Deardorffs (Deardorff backs, strictly speaking) were made, one for Kenro Izu and the others making their way through Evans' hands to...? If your client's camera is one of these Deardorffs, possibly you can get some information.

Otherwise, you need to see the camera yourself, or talk to the builder.

I have one of those original Deardorff backs and I had Richard Ritter build a camera around it. Murray Hoffman made the holders with the back. Film size is 1/8" less than the 14x20 dimension. The back was designed with an non-standard distance to the film plane. This distance is greater than typical so the holders are thicker.

I agree with Tracy and Oren that you should contact the camera maker before you begin construction of a holder. Too many variables in ULF. I also have an original 8x20 Deardorff back for my camera. Modern holders didn't fit it because of the rib lock position. Richard Ritter adjusted the back in this case so AWB and Lotus holders fit. With my 14x20 back I probably should have modified the back to reduce the distance to the film plane. Instead I chose to have the holders made for the back. Ideally you would want the camera back to make holders.
