135123I just picked up what apperas to be a Pinkham Smith visual quality lens with an odd serial number.
Its #632870
Can anyone confirm if its a real Pinkam Smith lens135122
B&J refurbed old lenses for resale. Not sure how that affects serial number. You might find some old catalog ads from B&J showing used lenses.
The serial number is definitely odd and "off"
The lens also looks "different", but this could simply be P&S lenses remounted in a different barrel with a different iris by B&J
Do you know what the focal length is of this lens ? Or is there beyond the Series IV a description like No 3 or No 4 ?
Take a look at http://antiquecameras.net/softfocuslenses.html ... middle of the page for P&S Visual Quality lenses and where one can find the serial number.
I've personally never seen a P&S lens with a serial number above 1,895 ... the highest serial number I have on record ..

I found B & J had remounted few interesting lenses, including your PS lens. NO. 632870 might belong to B & J system.
I have a B & J remounted Kodak Aeroektar 12in F2.5 lens. It gave the lens good barrel and swirl aperture.
Here's some good prices of used lenses from B&J!

Sorry, I can't confirm anything. Just adding clues.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the focal length is 12"
The front and rear elements are both about 75mm diameter.
This would make it a No 2 Visual Quality Series IV ...
Serial number may never be known unless the B&J boys replicated it somewhere on the barrel ...
Thanks for the reply.
