Dear fellews,
I have some barrel and projection lens without aperture.
Just found such kind of aperture.

I know it's easier to put in front of lenses than to plant it in the mid of lenses.
Any weakness if the aperture in front of the lens?
Need your suggestions.
thanks,
pierre

If the lens is intended to function with an aperture in the middle, you should put it in the middle.
Putting the aperture up front is pretty much just for the single/doublet meniscus like the simple landscape/portrait style lenses or magnifying glasses.

Yepp, but you knew lots of projection & petzval lenses were without their apertures.

It was from a certain. Rodenstock industrial objective machine. Normally the aperture is behind the lens.
