Greetings everyone.
My first time into larger format photography and I am grasping for knowledge.
I have a question regarding how to know whether a a large format lens will cover 5X4 (my camera is a Toyo-View 45G)
Is there an online reference that will differentiate between lenses of the same focal length so that one can determine if it is suitable for 5"X4" or only really suitable for 6X9cm etc.
Case in point:
How can I tell if the Tokyo Kogaku Super Topcor 65mm F7.0 lens is suitable for a 5X4 camera?
Apologies if this is a seemingly dumb question, but we all have to start somewhere.
Thanks in advance
Toyo

Welcome to the Forum!

The Horseman/Topcor 65mm f/7 is specified as covering an image circle of 120mm at open aperture and 152mm at f/22, which means that it will barely cover 4x5" at f/22 - no room for movement. It was offered with the Horseman 6x9cm technical cameras and is intended for 6x9cm.

Although it's not quite complete, a reasonable starting point for comparing late-model view camera lenses from the big four manufacturers (Fuji, Nikon, Rodenstock, Schneider) is the tables posted on the LF Home Page:

Thank you Oren.
Is there a link also to Topcor lenses and their specifications somewhere.
Much appreciated for your help

The instruction manuals for the Horseman technical cameras - for example, this one...

http://www.butkus.org/chinon/horseman/horseman_vh-r/horseman_vh-r.htm

...provide the specifications for the Horseman/Topcor lenses that were offered with the Horseman technical cameras.

There was also a series of LF Topcor lenses that were intended for large format use. The second page of this table...

http://www.kenko-pi.co.jp/horseman/e/lens_list.pdf

...includes basic specifications for those.
