Hello to everyone! I am new to your forum and hope to be an active participant. I use a 4X5 Graphic View I, processing and printing in my home darkroom using the BTZS protocols.

I have an Omega D-5500 enlarger that needs the rubber rollers replaced. I've seen other older threads on this subject, but they are a bit skimpy on details. First, how does one remove the handles? I see a pic that shows threaded ends on the rod, but I can't see how the handles are removed. Without any kind of parts diagram, I worry I will damage something. Does anyone know where I can get such a diagram? Also, is there anything else I should be aware of? Thanks for all the help!

I think you may get all the help you need from Harry Taylor, who knows at least as much as the folks who designed Omegas.

I don't think he has any interest in the non-Classic electronic enlargers.
The rollers can be repaired (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?35033-Omega-D5500-repair-parts&p=336719&viewfull=1#post336719 ) or new ones are sold by KHB. http://store.khbphotografix.com/Elevation-Drive-Roller-Assembly-for-Omega-D5500-Enlargers.html

Thanks ic-racer and Jerry Bodine. I think of myself as fairly adept with mechanical things, but I am not at all comfortable with this project. I've figured out some of it, but there is much still in question. I went ahead and ordered the replacement part in the link above and hope it has instructions with it. I'll report back with details.

Well, with much diligence and the help of ic-racer the operation was a success. I purchased the upgraded drive assembly from KHB Photographix and am happy I did. It is a quality product that should last many years. If it ever does wear out, it is rebuildable. Again, thanks to all!
