8x10 film holder separating

I apologize if not in correct forum

Ok separating may not be the correct term but heres my question:

Got one where the two side, rails? do not stay connected to the bottom part (the hinged part, neither side stays connected on the bottom) - they can pull away from the hinged part. I assume they should lock/click together and not come apart - they wont stay connected although they work well enough that I could use it, I just cant trust the holder to stay together and not fog the film.

can I glue these plastic parts together, and if so what sort of glue should I use? or just toss it. If gluing Id think I would need to use a glue that wont, i dont know, gas out and do something to the film.

I have a second holder where just one side doesnt stay connected. Both fidelity elite holders

Things break, some are not made perfectly. Don't waste your time. Throw it away.

Yes you are right: things break. Well I have 5 more holders that seem to be fine. They will suffice.

With my wooden holders I drop one drop of superglue on the offending joint, pump it back and forth a bit, and hold for a minute. I haven't had one fail yet. You need to be careful, of course, and not get it where you don't want it, which is why I say one drop. Alternately, if you're going to take Jac's approach, just send the broken ones to me--I'll take them.

Derek, whatever work, works. :) Perhaps due to my own errors, I never use super-glue any more. No, not from gluing my fingers together.

Prices for sheet film holders, especially 4x5 are plummeting! It is a good time to shop.

Wait. What? What has separated?
Is the tape still holding the flaps onto the bottom? Is this when the dark slide is pulled out or pushed home? Have the side pieces pulled away from the septum? The bottom?
Is the the film holder plastic? Or wooden?
I'm confused

yes the plastic 8x10 film holders where the side pieces pulled away from the septum, the bottom.

The tape/hing still works as designed, doesnt matter if the dark slide is pulled out or pushed in - they can and do still separate. I honestly didnt notice this issue on this particular holder until I was out on a shoot and noticed then.

The gel version probably won't wick into the joints where it needs to go. If you use superglue, I really mean just one drop. The stuff can run away from you, and you don't need much to do this job.

OK thanks mdarnton - i thought maybe the gel would fill any gaps better but you make a good point, it wouldnt wick into the joints.
