I recently attempted to scan 6x7 black & white film on an Epson 4870 Pro. I was very impressed with scanning 35mm negatives-the holder(template) & such. However, in looking at my relatively new scanner & accessories, I discovered that Epson did not provide a template (holder) for 6x7 negative film. What gives????????? Other templates for other sized film are accessories items in the purchase of the scanner but not 6x7??

For those of you who have a 4870 & utilize 6x7 what do you do??? I am not realy interested in making a "make do" template. It seems that Epson should provide a template for 6x7.

Epson--are you hearing me?????????

thank you for your responses--Raymond

for the Canon 9950F they make these little cards that slip in under the loose edge of the film and support it. These also work well with the Epson 4870. I know I do it. I had a 9950f that I returned but I kept the cards. Also this guy makes an adjustable after market holder that is resonable and works well.

I use an Epson 4870 (non-Pro version) and it came with a 6X7 holder. I can't imagine the Pro version wouldn't have one as well. Did you get it new??

I have the 2450. The holder for 4x5 has space for 120 film above the 4x5 slot. It will scan up to 6x9. The machine reads the negative and decides what it is. I've done both 6x6 and 6x9.

Did you get 4 plastic templates when you bought your printer?

1. 4-slot for 35mm film strip

2. 12 slots for Mounted 35mm slides

3. 3 slots that can hold 6x12 each <-- This is what you want

4. 2 slots for 4x5

This is what ships with the unit.

Apologies, I meant "Scanner" in the post above, not printer.

There is no Pro version of this scanner. The Pro labeling refers to the full version of Silverfast that is included, as compared to the standard packaging that only provides the LE version of the software. The scanner itself is the same.

"3. 3 slots that can hold 6x12 each <-- This is what you want "

Unfortunately this is probably not what you want. It does not hold loose trimmed 120 film very well, hence my suggestions above. I scan 25 to 50 6x9's a week and have struggled with the Epson holders.

For loose film I use the cards above to hold the free edges. These could be made easily. For fresh film from the lab I don't trim it until after I scan it. The long roll sets flatter in the holder than trimed film.

Despite some peoples claims these scanners have very shallow depth of field and benefit greatly by having the film as flat as possible.

But check out Doug Fisher's aftermarket holder. It solves many problems
