Dear fellows,
Are there any users of this lens in this forum?
I saw many good comments about the lens. However, I couldn't find any picture took by the lens.
I received and tested the lens on 8x10 yesterday.
The results on the negatives are:
1. Good contrast
2. Smooth and natural Grey transition, not hard as Nikon lenses
3. Good three-dimensional felling
But 4. A little bit of softness or diffused, even I closed the aperture to F32 and F45

Welcome any experienced comments and pictures~

Thanks,
pierre

I don't recall mine being noticeably soft or diffused.....but to be honest I bought it for the ULF coverage above everything else.

Pierre, bottom right, is that a 30cm APO Lanthar?

With the massive image circle of that thing, one inevitably wonders if the alleged softness is simply due to lack of adequate lens shading. But the 600 and 1200 A's
were apparently before that series was multicoated. And I wonder where one can rent an Indian elephant these days to carry a lens like that, along the camera!

I don't have any experience with the 600A but the shorter ones: 360, 240, 180 are much sharper than the pictures you've shown.

Anything that long is also going to have serious depth of field issues, as well as film flatness issues on big film. Even with 8x10 film I use adhesive holders for
any serious degree of enlargement. ULF photography is generally contact printed anyway. I'm always suspicious of optical comparisons via posted web images
anyway. Hardly objective.

I think your assessment is correct Pierre.
I too... Did not see the Fujinon 600A. Only a Fujinon 600C and the 600T's...

Thanks Michael. Sincerest apologies to Angus also!

For some reason...
When you type 'Fujinon 600mm' in the 'Completed' and 'Sold' Listings... It does not show up.

Well I just happened on this the other day and new it should be there. Way out of my budget so i passed and was going to post here and forgot. It took me a while to get it to come up.
For some reason fuji (for me) is difficult to search for on the bay. I have missed a few things. So I try several searches if i am looking for fuji.
I am not sure if it was a bargain or not but someone thought so.

Looks like it didn't sell. Likely to be relisted. Who is going to buy a less than perfect specimen for $6.5k!

There are some amazing lenses on the auction site, like a 42" f14 Goerz Red Dot Artar mounted in an Ilex #5 shutter.

I remember the old de Golden Busch wide-field lenses. Haven't seen one of those listed for years. Even years ago, listings were rare. I just saw an '84 Popular Photography PMA article describing the introduction of an f12, 24" (610mm) wide-field De Golden Busch lens.

SOLD - Best Offer Accepted

Well I guess it was less than $6.5k - would be fun to know.

Corran

Yes, eBay made that change a couple of years ago. I think it is a "bid" to increase sale prices. I know I have occasionally made deals on "Best Offer" type auctions at 50% or less the asking price, as it was way out of line. Of course eBay does not want potential buyers of similar items to know they might get it that much less, and therefore generate less fees.

Interestingly though, I have had instances where eBay will tell me the sale price. Last week I was making an offer on an item, but the seller and I couldn't come to terms. He said he had another offer a bit over what I was offering, and if I matched it he would sell to me. I declined, and sure enough a few minutes later it was sold. I received an email informing me that I missed out and the item had sold for "$x," which was indeed the Best Offer the seller had mentioned, under his asking price. I don't know what the situation must be to get such information or whether you have to have a pending Best Offer, but that's happened a few times to me.

It was asked too much, about USD 15000.
Do you want it?

Probably never haha, I'm pretty content with my 600 C (or 24" RD Artar) for 8x10 and 14x17 work.

If I want something in that FL range I would just buy a 42" RD Artar for 1/10th the cost.

Contact printing ULF there's no real need for the excess sharpness. Sure if I wanted to use I for 8x10 and some kind of far off mountain scape and extended bellows, maybe, but I think at that point I would just throw the 600 C on the 8x10 and throw on the 4x5 reducing back and call it a day.

But you never know what the future holds, perhaps Pierre will give me a good deal someday ;)
