Hello again everyone.

I recently shot some tri-x pan 4x5 film at iso 200, 400, 640, and 1000. By recommendation of my printer, I will be processing the 1000 with diafine. He also recommended that I use Xtol for the rest of the film and I wondered whether anyone had recommended times and temperatures for jobo tank on these speeds?

Let me add that I have already looked at Kodak's site, however, their times presume that 320 is normal while my presumption is to start with processing the ISO 200 as normal.

Thank you.

hi -- over the years, i have found that does not do much good to ask others about dev times. there are way too many variables that may affect times, including agitation technique, calibration of thermometers, water PH, chemistry batch, film batch, exposure meter calibration, sunspots, film freshness, chemistry freshness, personal preference vis-a-vis density, etc etc etc.

start with the mfr's recommended tismes. these are available on the kokak web site, in their handy little booklet, on the bottle of developer, and on your film box. take test shots, develop them, adjust, and then you'll know. try to do everything the same each time.

BTW, try ddx for everthing, including the 1000. better than diafine or xtol in my experience. plus, who wants to fool with mixing up xtol??

Dear Serge,

If you want normal contrast, choose the 320 times.

shot full speed (320)

120 TXP-320 1:1 11 1/4 min at 68 (use 100ml stock for each roll)
4X5 TXP-320 1:1 7 1/4 min at 68 (use 100ml stock for each roll)

By-the-way... you'll find xtol gives a less contrasty look while hc-110 gives a more contrasty look. But, if you want something in the middle, try Clayton F76. It's awesome! You can shoot txp at 320 with a full dynamic range from .1 above fb/f up to 1.35 at zone eight simply by developing the following way with your jobo.

4x5 Film DILUTION: 1+14 TEMPERATURE: 70°F (21°C) for 7min

120 Film DILUTION: 1+14 TEMPERATURE: 70°F (21°C) for 7:45

Give the Clayton a try. It comes in a convenient liquid form with a very long shelf life.

Good Luck
