I've tried this a couple times when the negative looked neat, but it never worked out for me in the print. I'm curious if anyone else has had better luck.

Solarization also counts.

hi diversey

not sure what you mean by a negative and print are not equal ... i think they are in many ways.

i have made negative-prints ( contact printing the positive to make the negative ), which were my final prints.
they looked like pencil drawings. currently i make retina prints and they are my final image, a negative.

i am also involved with a series of retina prints which i make contact prints, and cyanotypes and scans of
and the retina print is also part of the series and very much an equal with the other images.

it is very dangerous to make generalizations because often times they are not true.

I have seen negative prints of abstracts by Howard Bond and some of them looked very cool. I have thought about giving it a try, but I have not come across a negative of mine that would be suitable.

I tried this about 6 months ago, but you've inspired me to try again. The first is a semi-serious attempt, the second is sort of for fun:

By the way, yesterday I came across this image, which is a negative of this sort:

What size internegative are you using?

I like them both! They illustrate the potential of the technique. Since I am currently purely a darkroom worker I am also interested if it's better to make a film interneg or to contact print a paper print. I have done both before in other contexts.

Sure, have a nice one I used in one of my artists' books Twenty-Six Roadkills. It is not LF, but here it is..

You just have to test different images to see how they work. If it works, go with it.

Both very cool!

I have one image I did as a negative. I'll have to look it up and post it.

I love playing with reversal tones, I have dedicated over 13 years to doing only this for my personal work... its extremely addicting- William A Jolly wrote an incredible paper on the process
and I have been using his methods from day one.

Uhhh...

Well, I'm one of "those" people, so I just did this digitally. I can't help you folks who do real photography. Maybe try to find the paper Bob mentioned above?

ULF paper negatives as final prints sounds like another way to go. Mono prints, too. (one-of-a-kind). Did a couple 7x17 of an artichoke that way.

This was taken with mt Chamonix 4x5, G-Claron 150mm, and developed in Pyrocat-HD. I have asked how to do this somehow other than using PS. But at this point I still have to use PS. I scanned the negative and "inverted" it in PS.

Sometimes negatives really show and have the feel I wanted when I took the shot.
