So I created this YouTube video to show people how I remove one side of the emulsion of a sheet of X-Ray film.

Some people use plexiglass or real glass, but I use plain old news print paper, I thought it would still be a useful video.

Thanks for the informative video Stone. I like the use of the newsprint. I think I'll take up that trick for fujiroids too.
Does removing the emulsion make a density difference? Can you see a difference in sharpness on contact prints?

My technique is a bit different. I don’t tape and do it bareback. Less involved but of course a bit risky.

I also made video tutorial a couple of months back. It’s 2 minutes real-time: http://youtu.be/gnws-vaAD0U

I ran some tests with fixed scanner exposure recently. My results were posted here (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?48099-X-ray-Film-example-and-comparison&p=1177157&viewfull=1#post1177157) and here (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?48099-X-ray-Film-example-and-comparison&p=1177346&viewfull=1#post1177346)

No difference in sharpness for a contact no, but shortly cutting the density in half does help, I've already got the blue-based tint to deal with which is like fogging, the way I develop, two sides of density is too much. But that's because that's how shoot and how I develop. Unless you are having a problem don't try to fix what isn't broken. I mostly have scratching and uneven development on the side that is facing the tank wall, which is why I remove one side.

If I'm going to strip the emulsion from the back side, I put a small notch in the film, just like regular film, so that I know which side I want to strip. It makes life a lot easier.
