A new project for the new year. This one is closely related to two of my recent projects, Stieglitz Nebulae and Waves. (See these at my site: www.darinboville.com).

There are seventeen images total in the project, each printed on 17x22 paper using Peizography inks. The tonal scale looks a little like a platinum print. Five prints made of each image.

Here are the first four images:

It's a great subject. Stieglitz and Coburn both did much clouds work. Ralph Steiner spent 20 years of his retirement photographing clouds. John Paul Caponigro also has success with the subject in his Correspondence series. I like the subject too, and yours are different than what I've seen yet.

The first one is by far the most interesting for me.

Thanks, jp. Your last sentence, "....and yours are different than what I've seen yet" is a high complement indeed.

Thanks. That was one of the earlier ones--it was the one that convinced me I had a project. I hope the rest grow on you. :)

These were done with a Canon 5D. Most likely the lens was 24-105 f/4L

Darin, those are interesting clouds, it is like if you went inside them and did an MRI. You can get a lots of imagery from them. I like them. I am a cloud chaser too. Before a storm is when I am ready to go and chase them. Scott: Your clouds are awesome. At one time, I had two Canons and the 5D was one. Have you taken clouds with LF? Here are couple of my shots, I use the red filter more and more to try to get those clouds to work.

Thanks again!

I'm familiar with the term "lenticular," but think "wind clouds" is more poetic :)

Glad the image has found resonance.

When I was a student at RIT, on one of our trips to the George Eastman House we walked by some framed prints of the Equivalents series of photographs of clouds taken by Alfred Stieglitz. 2 of mentioned to the guide/curator that one of the prints was hung either sideways or up side down. We were told absolutely nonsense... Next time we visited the Museum, that print was hung correctly.

A photographer who has a lot of images of clouds.

http://mitchdobrowner.com/

No, it is not Large Format but his images are pretty good and a lot of clouds of all kinds. Especially a lot associated with destruction.
