I want to try X-ray film, in Europe, Romania, the only dimension in stock is 18x24cm so I want to buy a 18x24 holder.

I found some holders on ebay but is something strange about them.

I found a holder that look like this
127704
to my eyes is about OK, the film area looks smaller than a regular 8x10 holder.

And I found this one (the one I want to buy), "Planfilmkassette Sinar 18x24 cm"
127705
clearly marked as 18x24 but the film area seems big, like a regular 8x10 holder. Could it be the holder is a regular 8x10 with an 18x24 marking?

Thank you, Stefan

Looking more on ebay (at completed listings) I found several holders like this with a double marking; 8x10 and 18x24

127706

So, my question is, again, this a 18x24cm or a regular 8x10 holder ?

The outer dimensions are the same - of 8x10. The difference is, that one has smaller opening for the 18x24 film, the other - lisco/sinar - has the opening and the darkslide same as on an 8x10 holder but the space for film inside, e.g. under the darkslide is narrower for the narrower film.

Super, thank you a lot. One more mystery solved. I had enough bad experience with incomplete description on ebay.

Hello Stefan,

what you can see in the these images is not the size of the film but the size of the dark slide. I'm not familiar with the film holder in the first image, but the modern international 18x24cm holders that I've seen (or own), the outer dimensions as well as the dark slide dimensions are identical to 8x10" holders, but the inside "mask" (the rails to slide the film in) is tighter to fit 18x24cm. Some clueless sellers call their holders "8x10"/18x24cm", but of course it's one or the other. In my experience, if it has the format in white print in the top middle (like in your second post), it's always 18x24cm.

Good info, I saw lot of listings with "8x10"/18x24cm".
