24" repro claron performance

My first shot with this lens wasn't a keeper. what should I expect of this lens. Is there an optimum aperture? I'm doing some testing currently.

It should be a fine lens, mine was. It is a 4/4 dialyte design, similar to the Apo-Artar or Ronar. I would guess it is best around f22, but should be fine anywhere from f16 upwards. As I recall the glass tends towards yellow, but this didn't seem to have an noticeable effect on my copy.
