Gold star Dr.
With my new lens; the Sigma 35 art. I should have bought it sooner.
First photograph is shooting from the hip. I accidentally cropped my daughter's feet off shooting, so to balance it out, in LR, I cropped the sky and top of her head off too. It worked.

Acutol had strong edge effects, perhaps more than Rodinal. This is a crop of a 35mm negative and is only about a third of the full frame's area, yet each eyelash and pore is there.

From 1984, Hanover, NH. It feels awkward to me as a portrait, yet I still feel it captures much of the spirit of the subject.
Hasselblad 500C/M, 60mm Distagon, Film (probably Tri-X. I don't know for sure. But around that time I was still deep into Tri-X and HC-110/B)
Scan from print. Please forgive my primitive scanning technique!

It's me, 1986. 6 people posed that day exactly as I am, with my hat, jacket, gloves' My BSA. Some movie tryout. Not me... Shot with Leica II by my old running buddy, Skip Roman. Skip passed long ago. Negative lost. At that time I had it enlarged by Triangle Camera Chicago to poster size 24"X36". This is a iPhone SE copy of the faded print. Skip was a bar hustler of women. He made custom jewelry. If smart they gave 50% of his price. Then he worked fast to get the rest of the payment. Pay 100% and never see the item. I warned them. We had adjoining storefront art studios in a building of the deaf. We could make all the noise we wanted. I parked my bikes in my studio. Saturday parked inside the bar. The good old days. :)

Very nice tuco.
I was wondering which light setup you're using to camera left?
I've been looking at a lot of work by Yousuf Karsh the last couple of days and trying to work out some of his lighting and your reminds me of a number of his images.
Thank You,

chrism, as someone with a similar long-term project that started in 1968 and is still running, I always like seeing your Pippa photos!
Thank you, you're all very kind. Looking through my old pics I discovered a strange thing - I had unintentionally taken the same photo twice, but 35 years apart.

Thanks you guys. I've been looking at all the different color films I've shot in the past and I'm scanning a sample of each. Many of these negatives are getting brown/yellow spots of discoloration in the highlights already. Does that sound normal for 25-30 year old color film? It's common to multiple film types too. I think it's time to start making digital archives of the ones I value the most.

Not a static pose, she was constantly moving while brushing out her hair.
I should make a flip book or a fast slide show. But I was shooting too fast for my strobes to fully recycle, so some good ones are underexposed.

Thanks, Randy.
A collegiate flautist came to me to get a publicity shot for his final concert. I worked with him for a while and the poor guy had the most forced facial expressions I've ever worked with. Trying to get a deliverable image, I changed gears big time and tried to go with something where he didn't feel like he had to interact directly with the camera. When I pitched a film noir-looking shot to him, he smiled, so I figured that was the idea to go with. That being said, it doesn't look anything like my normal work so I'm not sure what to think of it.

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."
That was a statement by Hunter S. Thompson, the father of Gonzo Journalism.
That statement gives us a small insight as to what Gonzo Journalism is. The only dictionary where you will find the word gonzo is The Oxford English Dictionary. That dictionary defines gonzo as: "a type of committed, subjective journalism characterized by factual distortion and exaggerated rhetorical style."

I suspect the grain is from the Rodinal. If you try Kodak's TMAX and Xtol, or Ilford's DDX developers, I think you'll see a decrease in visible grain, if all other things are kept constant.
This is brilliant.

Thank you, Gentlemen! This was setup in my living room. No stylist, makeup...., but there was a Bernese Mountain Dog, Klaus, who was very helpful. I made my first 8x10 photos that day, using a Century No. 7. Alas, I was a newbie and didn't realize that the post for the Packard shutter being gone was a problem. Yep, double images. I made a few Polaroid transfers. Remember those? Rollei TLRs are wonderful for full body or 3/4 portraits, especially if they have a brightened screen. My Automat is from 1953. My father bought it at Sears to use for photographing high schools sports, predominantly baseball and basketball.

Sergei; the color photo of the girl by the painting with boquet is very nice! The scene is a nice mix of tradition and timelessness.
Here's one of my daughter; cold and bored at the beach. I thought it a bit like Gertrude Kasabier's "The Heritage of Motherhood" but not soft and adulting. The plain oversized hoodie is my wife's and it's generic fit/look is a style Mortensen employed; really basic materials that are completely incorrect, but you look right past that at the person.
My usual Rolleiflex automat tessar, tmy2 in pyrocat hdc.

Thank you. So, to me, I post screen-filling shots on my laptop. I've lately found out that they look tiny to everyone who doesn't still use a 10-year-old MacBook Pro because 1,000 pixels on the long axis is a postage stamp to the new hip kids. So that's probably why they fit well on your phone.
