I have been using Tri X 320 4X5 and very happy to keep going. But I have noticed that the cost of Foma is significantly less than Tri X, or at least in London where I purchase my material.

Can anyone comment; or has had experience (apart from the difference in speed) with Fomapan 200 asa in comparison to Tri X320.

Tri X is about Euros 95, and Fomapan Euros 40 !

Thanks
Peter

I cannot say from experience but from what I have seen posted here it is very worthy in certain conditions.
Flat lighting for one. Not so good in low light due to reciprocity failure. There are many examples in the image threads.
My first box arrives Tuesday.

I've used a lot of Fomapan 100 & 200 in 120, 5"x4", 9x12cm, they are excellent films and I've been very happy with the results. Do some speed tests with your chosen developer, they aren't box speed, I use both at half their stated speeds. They need shorter development times than other films or the contrast builds up quickly. I did some reciprocity tests and found they were nowhere near as bad as the Foma datasheets in low light levels, I;ve had no problems shooting at dusk.

My initial reason for getting Foma films was their availability while I was living abroad, I previously used Tmax films for many years but they were just not easy to get - pretty much impossible. I switched to Ilford films which are easy to get in any country and Foma as a backup and just began using more Fomapan, Recently I've begun shooting 7x5 and that will be using 100% Fomapan.

The price difference has a far larger impact as you move up formats, and Ilford and Kodak LF films are close to double US prices in Europe.

You can get Fomapan 200 for 27.47 euros for 50 sheets of 5x4 from Norway -Fomafoto.com

I shoot primarily with Fomapan 200 (Arista EDU 200 at $34.00 per 50). For one, because it is sooo cheap, and for another reason, it really does work well, especially with HC-110. Just be careful when processing as the emulsion is pretty fragile when wet.

Also, I really recommend Photographers Formulary TF-4 fixer.

I rate mine at 120 ISO.

fomafoto's prices are excellent !
including shipping from norway the film
is WAY-less expensive than the price without shipping
from major suppliers here in the states.

and the last time something was shipped to me from norway
