Yes, the obvious magenta in Velvia (more so on longer exposures) is maybe not so realistic, but you can use it to your favour.

I just scanned an old Fuji Velvia RVP for a friend taken with his 500C/M. While framed to include a dome-looking bluff above the falls it otherwise looks like the same place. Nevada Falls, I think he said?

More 600mm trials. I think this one shows limitations of the marginal tripod setup I used and slower shutter speed. It's fuzzy everywhere in frame compared to the hot air balloon.

Pentax 67, Tak 600/4, 400H

I pondered purchasing the Tak 600/4 but in the end got the new 1.4 and 2x Tele-extenders for the Tak 400 which has better reviews on the Pentax forum. I'm glad that I did because the Tax 400 and I presume also the 600 focusing ring is too stiff for what I wanted to use it for: taking B&W shots of sail-boating in the San Francisco Bay using a Manfrotto Gimble head. But while I was looking the 400 AF ED-IF for the Pentax 645 looked like a steal and I got one from Japan for a little less than $400 in excellent condition: pristine glass and no dings or scratches on the body. Even came with a new Kenbo UIV filter attached. The only negative was that for some reason the previous owner cut out a small square from the lens shade. But when attached it faces the ground and doesn't seem to interfere with the shades purpose and is not visible. More importantly the focus ring is smooth throughout requiring minimal pressure. The seller mentioned this feature so I don't know if it is particular to this lens or not but working with a tele-converter the smooth focusing of the lens and the damped mirror slap results in sharply focused negatives using the NII instead of the 67II.

BTW, the Vernal Falls slide above was taken with the 105mm SMC and not the 165. I even when out to that big boulder took several shots while trying to dodge the mist from the front element by removing the front cap just as I triggered the cable release.

Yeah my friend's picture was with an 80mm and it has a similar FOV to your picture. The 500C/M I own was his. He was an original owner. It was in excellent condition. Digital came along and he stopped using it. It took me years of begging him to sell it to me. Finally he did.

A rare (for me) color shot. Velvia 50, Hasselblad 500C/M on a non-T* 80mm. Florida Keys along the overseas highway. Color is hard to get right for me in post, but it's a good exercise to try and match the slide. I'm really happy with the quality of the scan, it was much better than I expected.

Catching up on photos I made in Yellowstone in 2015. I was there on business and drove through Yellowstone the last day it was open that year, when it was cold, rainy, and frozen. A couple of days after that (after conducting a workshop in Idaho Falls), we drove on to Boise, and stopped at Craters of the Moon. We had to wait an hour at the visitor center for it to stop snowing before they would let us in, but what a neat place in the snow.

These were all made with a Pentax 67, Ektar 100 scanned in a Nikon 9000ED, and edited in Photoshop. (Yes, I finally succumbed to the subscription model--and what a relief after trying the alternatives.) These are making really spectacular 16x20 prints.

Most of the pics you see are under a brilliant blue sky. I feel lucky to have been there on a snowy day. (I was there again a couple of years later, and it was all much more typical).

Also along the high road from Idaho Falls to Boise is ERB-1, the very first experimental nuclear reactor that generated power. Take the tour—it’s worth it. It’s utterly isolated, as would be expected. It’s further from Boise, but you’ll be driving halfway across the state anyway.

I'm continuing to scan older images from the 80's and 90's that were shot in medium format. This was taken in 1995, using a Mamiya 645 Super (lens unknown), and using Fujichrome.

The Louisville Water Company established Pumping Station #1, in 1860, and fronted by a tower. In 1890, the tower collapsed during a windstorm and the current tower was erected in its place. The tower is 183 feet high, and Doric in architecture. During the disastrous 1937 flood, the station remained in operation because the company was able to revert back to steam/coal power, continuing to supply needed water. The tower is currently undergoing a restoration.

When I shot the same frame and settings with my digital fujifilm, the view was totally blown out... no details no nothing...

Gear was a Mamiya Press with 6x9 back, Sekor 100mm f3.5 lens at f22, 2sec. Kodak Ektar, developed at home and scanned at 4800dpi with a V850.

For 120 I now use the Essential Film Holder (I used to use a glassless 6x7 carrier from an enlarger, but the EFH works better). For my 4x5 film I use a custom holder I made myself out of laser cut stainless steel and magnetised rubber.

Oh yeah, i think the 65 is great! At least my example, anyway. The only issue I have with it is that I dont have the matching finder... I just use the whole on-board finder set at 100mm, disregarding frame lines and it sort of works. I keep telling myself to use the ground glass back to confirm framing, but I seem to lack the patience to spend another 90 seconds on composition!
