Really nice image! Where was this taken?
Thank you! This is not far from Zion, to the west; the green area below the red buttes in the distance is the town of Virgin, Utah.
Really good colors and composition. Shiprock?
Thank you! No, not Shiprock, this is not far from Zion but the whole area of Northern Arizona to Southern Utah has much the same kind of aura

I love the color. I went to a Japanese Garden around my area and they said no tripods allowed. I didn't go in.
A couple shots from my new Linhof Technika 70. I bought this camera for $100, cleaned it up, 3D-printed some missing parts (including the lens boards and the ground glass focusing back), replaced the felt around the darkslide slot, and ground my own cam for a 100/2.8 Planar, 65/3.5 Mamiya Sekor, and 180/5.6 Topcor. These were shot with the 100mm f/2.8 Planar:

Nice work Pali!
Hi Pali, just a quick question on those matte borders, are those photoshopped or actually photographed. I just wanted to ask before I assumed because they look great and are a nice way to represent a photograph.
I've considered doing this myself as a preview to a finished product.
Hi Alen, The borders are added with Photoshop using a custom action script I wrote. I actually used one of my framed photos as a reference and tried to emulate the look as best as I could. I would be happy to share my script if you would like.
Regards, Pali

Both are nice Pali. The second one is my preference because of color and composition.
I like both but I always have a soft-spot for palmettos :).
Thank you chassis and Bryan! At one point, there was a condylostylus fly that was sitting at the perfect spot for pumpkin leaf image but I got too greedy and moved in too close. It flew away before I could take the photo.
BTW, Mamiya RB is such a great setup for close-up photography like this. I really need to use it more for macro photography.

Thank you kind sir. The square is a tough taskmaster that often punishes me. However, my sadistic tendencies has me on a quest to master the 6x6 frame. While success often eludes me, I remain dedicated to exploring this 1:1 ratio.
That location has so much going on that trying to decide what to keep and what to exclude was a bit overwhelming.

Nice work, and good exposure for the shadows/highlights! I forgot about the sunflower fields this time of year.

I forgot about the sunflower fields this time of year.
Thanks! TWRA had about 70 acres in sunflowers the past couple of years that actually became kind of a local tourist attraction, but planted just this small field this year.
At any rate, I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with my "poor man's TFC 617A" up in the Smokies, especially when I get set up to develop 4x5.

A number of years ago, while my wife and I were "chasing" lighthouses around the Great Lakes, we ventured down to Ohio and visited the Marblehead State Park. We got there fairly early, got some great exposures using my Mamiya 645 Super. and 45mm lens. As the morning latened, the winds picked up and provided some nice wave movement coming from the east. This image caught the waves nicely, and was recorded on Ektachrome 100 Professional. Early last year, I scanned in a number of images from older transparencies and negatives. This one was cropped slightly, but other than cleaning up the image for dust, etc., is pretty much unedited.

Haleakala Crater on island of Maui. Fuji GA645 with Portra 400 shot at 200, scanned on Epson V800. Wasn't the best time of day to shoot...didn't realize the rules have changed for sunrise access...you now need a permit to get in between 3 and 7 am. If you're planning a trip to the islands, best guess is to reserve a permit on-line when you're booking your trip...no walk-ups allowed. Link: https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/253731
Nice.
Soon, as the population grows, we won't even be able to go on our land. I saw a train bridge driving down the road. There was a small, remote park there. I stopped to look for a picture. But they wanted $10 bucks to visit that place or have a special pass. I left and not a few miles down the road there was another train bridge and a gravel park area with no facilities. They wanted yet a different special pass to go there. And none of these places are even special. This point of use tax is a PITA. All at the convenience of the public servants instead of the other way around. Unbelievable.

It seems to be getting that way. Certain areas of Monument Valley require not only a permit, but you must also use a Navajo guide to go along with you. From what I can gather, these areas are still used for ceremonial purposes, and they don't want the ugly tourists (yes, some spoil it for all of us) desecrating their land. I can understand that after getting a look at some folks. Havasu Canyon is getting that way too, but no requirement for a guide just yet...just gotta pay the Havasupai to play, but it is a beautiful place. Ditto for Antelope Canyon (Navajo guide), but I hear they stopped photographic tours in Upper Antelope.

Thanks tuco. Yes, the iPhone cameras are not bad these days, and Snapseed is a reasonable PP solution. I want independent shutter and aperture control on the iPhone, maybe some day.
Found this cool tree on the trail last week. And the leaves are changing. I also tried to shoot this tree in b&w but all the tones blended together into a big grey mess. I like the color version though.

Nice to see you shooting color with your camera Bryan! One of the reasons why I shoot color most of the time is because I find myself getting the "grey mess" too often. My eyes have now adjusted to seeing photos in high-contrast color that slide film offers.

High contrast is certainly nice in some situations! Such as a rainy, dreary day - here's two I shot a week or so ago in such a condition but just developed.

Pali, I really like the first and third of your "light rail" panoramas. I'm attracted to the first because I gravitate towards "simple geometrics" and that one emphasizes both the geometry and the pano format. And the third has an attractive "dynamism," plus I like that you took the chance to shoot somewhat into the sun, which adds to the shot. I really like almost all of your posted images, but posting three related ones together kind of begged for a comparison comment.
Thank you Peter! I recently started to shoot directly into the sun because I got some lovely lens flares by chance that made the whole photo much more appealing for my taste. Now, I intentionally try to catch lens flares but shooting without a ground glass is a hit or miss. Unfortunately, sometimes it does not work at all and the entire scene gets washed out like it did on a frame from my most recent 6x17 roll. Thank you for the nice compliments on the photos am glad that you like the trolley panos - appreciate it!
Here is another one from the same 6x17 roll I shot two days ago.

Eversmart Pro Scanner
A very pleaseing image Pali!
Eversmart Pro is a 14-bit ADC scanner with 16-bit per channel data path from the scanner to MAC and all the internal processing done in 16 bit per channel mode (both Eversmart Scan and oXYgen do the processing in 16-bit even if/when the scan mode is only set to 8). It saves images in 8-bit per channel. Otherwise it is as good as a Pro II. Both Eversmart Scan and oXYgen are capable of making amazing conversions of color negatives.
Thank you Sergey. That explains why I am seeing such amazing results from this scanner. I would even imagine that at higher DPI, the 8 bit file has plenty of color information and to my eye, I have always struggled to see any difference between 16 BIT and 8 BIT files from my scanners. I do however notice a big difference when edited in 16 vs 8 bits but can't recall a single scan of mine where 8 bit made the image suffer.

Jim, Jon thanks!
This is one entire roll of film, shot in a Holga I found at an antique store just a block down the road from where it was taken. I wasted one roll of film to count "clicks" where the images would overlap just a bit, and then went around the historic downtown Dahlonega square, photographing in front of every building. I then scanned the entire roll (which came in at over 50,000 pixels) and cleaned up the image in Photoshop, and finally made a "donut" using some PS tricks:

Interesting, when was this shot? I thought your canopy would have already closed by now at mid-elevations (or else you've got some interesting topography up high.):) At any rate, I'd be very interested if you've found a film/(post)processing workflow that handles psychotic greenery we're going to deal with for the next few months.
BTW, how did you find Cornbread Fest? I'm thinking you might have had to find a way to strap your prints on a Goldwing or two.:)
Oh I've been working on this roll (220) for a little while. This was early March. I overdeveloped this a little bit - the sun was illuminating the trees and I liked the feeling of light it imparted, which got a little blown out due to that. The light meter readings can be deceptive too when it's variable light coming between branches. It was about a week or two ago when all the leaves suddenly were back here.
Festival was a bust sales-wise but I did win "Best in Show" so that was nice (cash prize! :)).
I try to embrace the green. But we haven't had enough "good light days" lately to shoot much E6. I have a large stash of Velvia 220 I bought last year I need to use but have only been shooting maybe a roll or two a year (and I have like 50). I can't print it myself so it's mostly just for fun.

Thanks! Speaking of "seasons," starting tomorrow it's "graduation season" and I'll be all over GA and some in TN working over 15 events - so not much film shooting going on anyway...

Love the BIG DOG on the rocks! You go Chico go boy go!
Wonderful portrait, love how you got down low to really emphasize his position and placed him slightly off center.
Both shots are nice tuco!

Nice posts guys.
Testing a roll of 2010 expired Fuji Superia 100 that I'm not sure how long it was stored in the freezer. I have 3 more rolls to hopefully use wisely. One of the barn doors on My 500C/M does not raise completely during the exposure and it casts a shadow on the very edge of the frame. I did something to cause that, dang it.
