Hi

I'm looking for a wide angle (10-12 inches) for 11 x 14 format. I don't care if there is no shutter and I don't need a large IC. I want to use it for landscape. I'll use a cap to act like a shutter. I want a good performance at infinity.

What are my options.

All tips are welcomed.

Norm, your post's title asks for a process lens. Your text asks for a 10-12" lens that will cover 11x14. You've defined the empty set. A 300 that covers 11x14 sees an angle of 74 degrees. A 250 would have to see 84 degrees. Process lenses all see narrower angles.

And then you said that you don't need a large IC. 11x14's diagonal is 452 mm. That's large.

Your best bet may be a 250/6.3 Wide Field Ektar, except that it isn't a process lens. EKCo says it will just cover 11x14 without movements.

There are other w/a lenses in the focal length range you want. This link http://sdrv.ms/1i4czGa will take you to a set of links to lens makers' catalogs and other sources of information on, mainly, LF lenses. Follow it and do your own research.

Hi,

The Apo Gerogon S 11/270mm stopped down to 32 might just cover at infinity .. a real performer .. superb contrast/resolution ..and not expensive ..

Good thought, Joerg, but per Rodenstock it will fall a little short of 11x14. Norm, if you click on the link I gave you the link to R'stock process lenses and more is the skydrive link in the R'stock section.

Check out the Wide Angle Claron lenses. Up to 80 degree angle of view.

I have used the 270mm on 11x14 -- seems to cover well at infinity. Also a 300mm I use covers 11x14 -- I'll have to check the type later.

A Schneider G-Claron 270mm or 305mm will both cover 1114. The 270 just barely. But the real pinnacle lens is the Computar f9 270mm. It was 6 elements, 6 groups and is not only amazingly sharp, it covers 12X20. The 305 and 360 Computar / Kyvytar / Kowa group lenses are a different formula and don't cover near as much. In fact those 2 cover less than the G-Claron.

The Computar Kyvytar Kowa 270mm f9 lens is extremely hard to find, and mostly the word is out and people are hanging on to them. So expect to pay accordingly.

G-Claron's. Schneider's web pages have extremely conservative coverage numbers, like 68 degrees or some such. That was because their original intended use as graphic arts lenses would only work in that range. But in practice for general photography, they are very very sharp, and they will cover 82 degrees on ULF. Someone will come on here and correct me. They always do. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. Steer clear of the giant G-Clarons that say wide field or wide angle. f11 They aren't.

If you don't need a shutter, another fine lens but harder to find is one made by Konica. They had a 260mm that just covered 11X14.

The old Kodak 250mm Wide Field Ektar will just cover. The Computar is the best of the best though.

There's also the Computar/Kyvytar/Kowa 240mm--it covers 11x14 with movements. The 210mm also covers 11x14, but with no movements.

I use a 15" Ilex process lens as my standard lens. I have a 300 mm Gerogon process lens but I'm not sure if it covers.

Although not a process lens the 360mm Schneider Symmar-S will cover 11x14 (IC 491 @ f22): https://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/large_format_lenses/symmar-s/. They can be found on ebay at reasonable prices in a shutter.

Not sure why you need such a short lens when shooting 11x14. I would suggest something like the Goerz Red Dot Artar 16.5 inch lens, which shows up in barrel and shutter configurations.

The 240mms Repromaster will cover 11x14 with a little movement. My normal 11x14 lens is a 12/21/28 Turner-Reich triple convertible. All of the combinations will cover 11x14.
