Century 10A Studio Back

I just obtained a Century Studio 10A but it did not came with a back. So I am thinking of making one for it. As I also have a Eastman No 2 with a 8x10 back , I am thinking of making a adapter back for the 10A and use the No2 back on the adapter board. Sound feasible?

I see a brass clasp and a upward groove (see photos) , what are their purposes? hope the experienced DIYers here can help me on this.

The ridge/upward groove at the bottom fits into a slot in the bottom of the back assembly, then the top rotates in and the brass clasp clips down over it to hold it in place. And yes, you can make an adapter back to fit your 8x10 back. :)

thanks Mark for the reply. I found this thread (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?76890-My-Century-10A-Restoration) where are a few more photos to look at. what is not clear to me still is should there be a small slot on the top of the back for the brass clasp to clip on?

This is a hand made adapter to fit the back from a 2D to a Century studio camera. The rather large tongue on the bottom of the camera engages a groove in the base of the back which the groove at the top is captured by the brass spring clip to hod the assembly in place. My carpenter friend took the whole back assembly from a cast off 2D and made the adapter plate to solidly fit the camera. It works perfectly.

Thanks Lenser for the pictures. Now I understand about the groove for the brass clasp. Your carpenter friend did a very good job for the adapter plate. I know mine won't be so great but I hope it will be at least usable.

I have to say that this catch system at the top is not completely foolproof. I had one near accident with the GG, then a complete accident which smashed the GG. This was an original back, so the ability of the brass latch to hold during adjustments should be checked regularly!

after 9 years since i started this thread, I finally find the motivation to work on a 8x10 back adaptor for my Century Studio Camera. The idea is to use the 8x10 back from my Eastman No 2 camera on the Century Studio Camera. Hence an adaptor is required.

Excellent! I presume a little flat black spray paint on the inside areas to minimize any possible light leakage?

I painted the back and sides with black acrylic paint. So far no leaks detected with RA4 paper. Check out my self portrait in this video
