View Full Version : Opinions on Epson 9800 plus Cone inks for digital negatives?

I mentioned to a friend that I was considering making large digital negatives for alt process printing and he mentioned that he had an Epson 9800 that was on sale -- he's an experienced color digital photographer, I am a strictly analog printer who has never even programmed his VCR clock (do they still have VCRs?) never mind calibrating a scanner or monitor -- but I find myself in need of a way to make negatives for contact printing and am resigned to having to tackle a steep learning curve. I will be scanning 8x10, 4x5 and mf negs, using an epson v700

The cost of the printer is good (same as a new Epson 4900 printer) and it comes with all the accoutrements including cartridges for Cone inks, and more importantly the owner will be around to help me set it up and start printing for a while before he moves.

So is there anything I should know before I commit to this beast?

Never mind. Upon sleeping on it, I decided to stick to analog.
