Hi all,

With the few discussions in the last few weeks about Shen-Hao cameras, and some hunting around, i've found out that they make 10x12 and 6x8 studio stand cameras, and after a quick inquiry with camerachina, their distributor, found out that the price for those beasts is very interesting... Has anyone actually seen one of those cameras in person ? Or worked with one ?

Now, i'm aware that 10x12 is not a standard film size in today's market, same thing with film holders, but it shouldn't be too hard to adapt a 8x10 groundglass back on one of them and make for one impressive portrait studio camera...

Tell me what you think,

PJ

I'd be worried about the shipping costs, unless you already happen to be in Asia.

Old Kodak and Deardorff 8x10" and 11x14" studio cameras can often be had for little more than the cost of shipping in the U.S., because they usually need to be shipped by truck.

How much is the 6X8 and are there any pictures anywhere?

If you go to the Shen Hao websites you'll see all the various cameras. Unless you intend to use the things only in a studio I'm not sure it's a good choice. But at least the choice exists. You'll have to email them for price. Remember for 6x8 you'll need film holders and custom holders will add up.

J&C is bringing in the field cameras [4x5,5x7 and 8x10] so maybe they could bring in the other ones if you ask.

actually , camerachina quotes a price of 300USD for the 6x8 and 350USD for the 10x12...

I know, dirt cheap, and even with the same amount of shipping, still a relative bargain, but they have to stay in the studio, of course...

I went to the website and they are cool looking cameras. The only other time I saw a studio camera was in Timothy Greenfield-Sanders book XXX.

So did anybody ever figure the holder situation for these things? They must have film holders in China for them. Don't they?

http://www.shen-hao.com/main.html

Just wait for it to load. Go get a coffee or something it's that slow.

Bill, it works for me but as Nick says, it takes a very, very long time.
