Zeiss Double Protar 22 and 29cm lens

Picked up a double protar with 22 and 29cm cells, I understand this is a convertible lens for 5x4, but what do the numbers 50, 25, 20, 15, 10 etc. designate? How do I know what f-stop the single cells are on the scale? Thanks.

Yes, I've got a 22cm/22cm Protar, probably smaller cells than yours, similar shutter (with the same scale in mm). I like it a lot, took it trekking to Nepal with me. If you want to sell yours at a reasonable price, let me know ;)

yes, I've used the longer 14" (approx) cells, either solely or together, particularly for mf roll film back use on a 4 x 5, I liked the images a lot

mind you mine are in barrel, so exposures were simply made by removing the lens cap

as you probably know, they're not fast lenses at all, great for landscapes and architecture

Hmm, medium format roll film with long Protar cells? It sounds interesting. What film are you using, and are the cells uncoated? I like uncoated cells with colour films.

I got it for a song....but the shutter won't cock, so need to take front off and have a look at what's up, then I'll try it out and see ;)

I got it for a song....but the shutter won't cock, so need to take front off and have a look at what's up, then I'll try it out and see ;)

you don't need a shutter, just use it 'as a barrel lens' and remove a lens cap

Good luck with that shutter, the dial set shutters seem quite simple and reliable, so hopefully you can get it going.

yes a really ideal trekking/back packing lens, really light too, terrific for landscapes and architecture and also other work, where speed isn't required, commonly the fastest speed (from memory) is around f12.5

thank you all, i spoke too soon, cocked the shutter and its jammed, won't budge, the release lever moves freely, but something is stuck....i think it will need repairing.... the t/b settings may have slipped causing it to jam, or something else...
