I'm writing an essay and would appreciate sources for the following quotes (and corrections to the quotes themselves):

1 -- "Unlike a painter, a photographer starts with something finished and works backward. "
2 -- “to make seen what without you might never have been seen.”

Many thanks!

You might try researching this at Photoquotes.com

I have heard the quotes that you mention but do not recall their source. If I knew the answer I would tell you.

The second quote was from Robert Bresson. I've heard the first said in different ways by numerous people including Paul Caponigro, I believe.

I've seen this attributed to Edward Steichen:

"Every other artist begins with a blank canvas, a piece of paper...the photographer begins with the finished product."

yep, Steichen.
