That Cooke lens sure looks nice, Dan! My birthday is coming up the 17th of October. Hint hint!

Yeah, I know. You will probably get me the same thing you got me last year.

Sorry, all, I somehow put in a link that I didn't mean to. Here's the other one I wanted to share with you: http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/lenses/ps945-229-f4-5.html

Alan, my last major project before I retired from AT&T (formerly Bell) Labs was on cellphone fraud. Just the other day I let my old corporate fraud client know that I was using Skype. He told me not to do that. My reply? Send money.

I saw that as well. Still waiting on mine (in barrel) to show up... going on 12 weeks now. Finally decided after 10 years of wanting one, to pull the trigger. The first NEW large format lens I've ever purchased.

Actually it's your first 3 new large format lenses, Karl!

I've been shooting a lot with Wollensak Raptar 1A and B&L Protar VIIa lenses in the last year or so. It's amazing how far you feel like you can go with the 8x10 with just a triple convertible and a small 210mm in your bag. Smaller bag and fewer lenses means I'm more likely to get out and shoot.

I knew there was something missing when I bought that Deardorff... But the lens does come with Moonrise Magic. :-)

I am now the proud owner of Cooke Convertible Series XVa no. 195. Looking forward to getting out to shoot with it tomorrow.

Well, after passing 52 sheets of film in front of (I suppose I should say behind) my Cooke XVa in the last few months I have to say it's an amazing lens. Such a beautiful rendition of tones. The individual components are very sharp and easy to focus. About the only thing I'd wish for is a bigger image circle with the complete lens. Though the fall off at the edge of the image circle is quite pleasant.

Karl, I was pretty interested in this lens. I owned a set of Cooke Cinema lenses and they were gorgeous! I've read, though, that the triple convertible exhibits focus shift when you stop down to shoot. What has your experience been?

Thanks,
CB

I've not noticed any focus shift at all. I always focus wide open with the lens in any of the three configurations. I very rarely check the focus of any of my shots at shooting aperture. I've been very happy with the sharpness of the resulting images.
