View Full Version : How to get a softer lens on my Sinar F2?

Hello everyone,

I'm shooting my Sinar since 1 week and have already burned through 20 sheets of TriX. All portraits.
And that's all the experience I have with large format. Please excuse my very basic questions!

What I notice is that the Sinaron 150mm that came with the camera is extremely sharp and contrasty.
I like to compare it to my RZ67 110mm 2.8 lens. Have been shooting 120 film for the last 2 years so that's what I can relate to best.
I love the 110mm with colour film but I can't get pleasing tones on black and white film with it.

So I would love to get a lens for the Sinar that gives me a similar look like my Rolleiflex + Rolleinar.
Shallow DOF, sharp enough in the centre and creamy tonality.

Something like this:

How can I get that on my Sinar F2?

I understand I need to get a lens, a shutter and a board.
How do I start?

Look under Image Sharing and Discussion (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/forumdisplay.php?30-Image-Sharing-amp-Discussion) for threads whose title includes the word "Portraits". There's a new thread every month. you'll see a large number of portraits in the style you seek. Here's an example thread from February 2014 (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?110743-February-2014-Portraits), taken at random.

You might also find this article (http://www.kenleegallery.com/html/lenses/) helpful: see the sections on portrait and vintage lenses.
