My portfolio needs some atmospheric interest and the notion of flat plains and fluffy (or even ominous) clouds has got me curious. Since mini-me has developed an interest in the landscape, I'm thinking of a father/son outing, maybe based in Mountainair(?)

August usually-the "Monsoons". And IME the Manzano Mts from Mountainaire down to the Salt Missions like ABO gets really good clouds IMPE. If you are going let me know and I will hook you up with a Ranger friend of mine who works the Salt Missions.
Not every year is the same or every area. Weather in NM is not nearly as predictable as it was when i was a kid. October on a wet year can be great too especially out around Chaco and the Bisti.
