This may be a really daft question but what stops light leaking through the hole which the air tube for a Packard shutter requires, as it goes through the lens board and inside the bellows so could so easily fog the film?

Thanks

Bruce, Not daft!! Actually, some light also sneaks around the blade edges too. A little math is in order here. If the surfaces are painted black (assume 10% reflection), then by the 4th bounce on its way to the sensitive surface, it is 1/1000 as bright as the light at the entry point. From the exit point to the sensitive surface, it will spread out and the inverse square law applies. So with the shutter at the front and the sensitive material at the back, a very small fraction of light will get there. Hope this is useful. Keep your camera innards black everywhere. andy

Packard makes an air fitting for their shutters, use black tubing inside the camera, outside can be any color including clear.

if I was setting up from scratch, I would use the metal "through tube" mentioned by Jim C. because it's a lot neater
but no light goes thru the walls of the tube if it's opaque and there shouldn't be any gaps around the tube if it's going thru a really snug fitting hole in the lens board
[I guess you could run a small amount of something like a gasket sealer or "liquid electrical tape" around the inside if there was a gap]

Don't really want to make a transatlantic phone call if I can help ity,so an email address would be my preferred option.
Thanks

http://www.packardshutter.com/

It is the web site that doesn't work. I have emailed the web master, but that is obviously a third party.

Doesn't anyone have an email address for packard shutters?

Thanks

The air fitting is just a pass thru fully threaded nipple, you may be able to source one from a lamp supplier.
