Hey all!

I recently picked up an ARCA Swiss, my camera of choice, for an absolute song. The caveat being that both of the elements were front elements. The only practical difference being that the focus and locking lever were swapped around on the 'rear' element; something I could undoubtedly live with.

However, at some point the 'rear' elements focussing knob had obviously been forced when it had fouled with one of the knobs along the rail; thus, the outer knob was slightly bent.

In my quest for clean cameras and keen to investigate, I removed the locking nut from the focussing knob and proceeded to remove the knob. However, the knob got momentarily tight and without much force sheered clean off!

Luckily, there is a small amount of thread left on the end of the 'axle', so I should be able to very carefully slot the sheered thread and remove it from the outer knob. I of course won't be able to use the locking nut, but would be content gluing it on.

This however is not an ideal solution.

So my question is two fold;

First off, does anyone have a spare ARCA, monorail gear/axle? As far as I can tell, they are standard throughout their Model a/b/c line. Even better, would anyone have a spare rear rail section?! There is a replacement front one on the flea-bay, but it's almost as much as I paid for the camera!

Secondly, would anyone have any suggestions as to where I could be able to find a replacement gear with a grub screw? I would be quite happy to machine a replacement axle with the threaded sections at each end, but the limit of my experience wouldn't allow me to make the geared section in the centre. I've briefly perused McMaster, but I really am not well voiced in such things.

Wish me the best of luck all and have some crappy phone pictures so that my problems are more clear!

These cameras were last manufactured in 1983. You might try Precision Camera Works in Niles iL.

Precision is the only place I can think of that may have parts. The Plastic(?) guides get very brittle, so be very gentle with those. I know of no source for those.

Hope this helps,
