Photostock 2014
Harbor Springs/Cross Village, Michigan
June 19 - 22, 2014

It's time to think summer and the annual gathering in Northern Michigan! The dates are set and we already have some great people on tap for you this year. I'm extremely happy to announce that Holly Roberts (http://www.hollyrobertsstudio.com) will be joining us with her unique and one of a kind, photographic, mixed media collages. Holly will not only be giving a talk on the Friday of Photostock, she'll be teaching a 4-day workshop during the week running up to the gathering. This will be a rare opportunity to work with Holly outside of her more common venues of the Anderson Ranch and Penland. It's going to be an honor to have her and others attend and share with us this year.

There are several fine guests joining us and confirmations are in the works with more. The website is now up and running and you can subscribe to the newsletter there. You'll get all the updates as they are available and will be among the first to be notified when registration is open.

Although there will be some things scheduled at the new workshop facility, the Birchwood Inn (http://www.birchwoodinn.com) near Harbor Springs will again be the base of operations. So book your rooms soon if you think you are coming. I'm hearing that they are already filling fast. More about lodging camping and special guests can be found at the website.

That's all for now. Stay tuned to the website and be sure to get on the mailing list.

Thanks! I hope to see you in June!

Holly is a friend of mine and one of my favorite photographic artists. I would not call her a photographer per-se but an artist whose imagery is based in photographs. She definitely stretches a lot of peoples concept of the boundaries of photography. She has a great reputation in this area as a workshop teacher. I can't speak highly enough of her. Combined with Bill's fine venue I would think this is one not to be missed.

I'm really looking forward to meeting Holly, Kirk. She's been on my wish list for a while now and I love her work. One of her pieces looks over my family in our living room and she is an inspiration. As Kirk says, it is extremely interesting what Holly does with photography. I always like to shake things up a bit at Photostock and She will fit in perfectly and add a little playfulness to the usual.

Hello!

Registrations for this year's Photostock are now open! And what a terrific response so far! This is really shaping up to be a great year and I have to thank everyone that has signed up already.

www.photostock2014.com - www.photostockfest.com

As mentioned in the newsletters, there is a special, early registration fee until May 1st, so I hope all that are thinking of coming will save some money and register before then.

I also hope you'll consider one of the workshops being offered. All workshop fees include your general registration, so if anyone that has already signed up wants to add a shop, your initial registration fee will be refunded. All workshops include the registration.

For workshops, we have the fantastic, Holly Roberts (http://www.hollyrobertsstudio.com) coming from New Mexico to teach an intensive, four-day class in photographic mixed media. Many of you will know of Holly's work with abstract painting and photography. This will be a great workshop for breaking out your inner creativity. Holly is world renowned and this is a unique opportunity to work with her in the north woods of Michigan this summer.

I'm also very pleased to announce that LF shooter, Eliot Dudik (http://eliotdudik.com) and Meg Griffiths (http://meggriffithsphotography.com) will be coming from North Carolina and doing a workshop in Cyanotype Bookmaking this year. This will be a lot of fun for the more budget minded workshop attendees. A two-day workshop where you will be making cyanotype photograms and learning to bind them into a hand made, hard cover book. You'll not only have fun printing in a fun process, but you'll learn the basics of bookmaking that you can carry on to other projects.

Cyanotype Bookmaking with Eliot Dudik and Meg Griffiths - June 20-21 (http://www.photostockfest.com/?page_id=461)

I hope you'll have a look and give them consideration, but most of all, I hope you can join us this June!

Best, Bill Schwab

Hello!

Thanks to all of you that have registered! It's great to see all the names coming for the gathering this year! We're now 70 strong!

Just a quick note to say that the first official newsletter has gone out to all who have registered. I'll leave a link here as well, but if you haven't gotten it, it might be that it is being filtered on your end.

Newsletter#1 (http://mad.ly/921db4)

*Please keep in mind that the cost of basic registration goes up on May 1st! Don't miss the early, discounted registration if planning to come.

A few additions this year will be a 20 x 30 "circus" tent with optional sides in case of inclement weather (that we won't be having). We'll also have a small PA system for presentations and discussions and will hold a lot of the scheduled activities right there under the big top. This will allow us to go past closing time on the main meeting facilities inside the hotel. We'll still utilize the birch forest, basement room as well. We've grown just a bit and will have to spread out, but it should be no problem.

I'm also told that the hotel is now full, but there are still plenty of places in the area to stay. Please check the lodging section of the website for more options.

That's it for now. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone this year!

Bill
