Town of Newfane on route 30. Just about anywhere you go you will find things to photograph. It all depends on what you want to photograph. You may want to take a look at Time in New England by Paul Strand if you need ideas.

The first two weeks in October are a great time to be in Vermont. I am presuming you are after quint towns, farms, and fall color. As such the color starts in the northeastern part of the state and works south, so by the second week of October the central part is where the action is.

Alot of the tours go to Peacham and the Jenne Farm, personally they are overdone and I would go elsewhere.

My favorite areas are along route 100 especially around Waitsfield, Warren and Sugerbush (Mad River Valley). There is good lodging, food, and access to great areas to shoot. They are also alot less crowded than Stowe or Peacham both with tourists and photographers.

Shooting locations: The Ap Gap, Lincoln Gap, and Roxbury Gap are great early and late with scenic views.

The AP gap has some ponds on the western side that are really nice in soft light and fog.

Bragg Hill Road out of Waitsfield has great views and an awesome barn at the top you cannot miss.

Across the Lincoln Gap toward Bristol there are also some great views , creeks, and side roads worth exploring.

Any of the roads or hikes in the Mad River Valley are really pretty nice, with farms, trees, etc.

By the way the American Flatbread company in Waitsfield has fantastic pizza!!

Have fun and good shooting!!!

The narrow, two-lane country roads tend to get clogged with leaf-peepers that time of year. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

The town of Proctor is interesting. There is an excellent marble museum there. Wonderful b&w murals of their marble used in government buildings in D.C. and around the world. The photography is excellent. Neat marble stuff for sale in the shop, too.

But the best part of the little village of Proctor is the abundant use of marble everywhere. The tiny building housing the volunteer fire department engine is all priceless white marble. As are all the curbstones. Worth a visit.

In the Southern Vermont area is a dirt road that crosses the Green Mts. It runs between East Arlington and Stratton. A bit over ten miles long and in very good shape even after rain. It runs along a river and past some nice lakes. Your way deep in the woods and the leaf peepers are on the paved roads. If on a weekend you better have your motel reservations in now.
