With MF i had more tests/experiments than LF, in fact i only did shoot 5 sheets, so i can't talk about LF yet.
Here are 3 shots from my beginning with MF:

One of the saddest pictures I've taken--the result of a short fall out of my friend's truck. Where I learned the hard way to stick with one oversized format at a time. At least it was an excuse to get a new ground glass though.

I like that staircase Jim. Hetocy; that seems to be a photo of the girls' personalities! Nicely done.
Not an awardwinning portrait or anything, but I'm pleased with it as an example of seeing all aspects of the photo at once; background, lines, tones, shapes, etc... I saw the scene with the donkey kong tilted lines and asked my daughter to sit for a photo in it, knowing how the blond hair would stand out from the tree of different texture/tone. A gray day is fun with B&W film.

This is about knowing one camera+lens+film and the environment one is shooting. With practice, I can sometimes know before I raise the camera to my eye, how it's going to render backgrounds of this type and distance at certain apertures. I can see the lines of the charlie brown tree and know they will integrate or stand out. (When I don't know, I take the shot anyhow hoping to learn and get lucky)

Thanks for the comment.
I think gray days are great in color as well - I love the way purples and reds and blues stand out from green foliage. Don't get many of them in Tucson though:<)

I like that one jp, as well as your description. I think that sometimes photographers tend to look at their subjects as if they were looking through a window, and in doing so loose sight of the picture as a collection of shapes and lines in a two dimensional rectangle. I think it's helpful to be able to switch back and forth between these two perspectives. And oh, her striped pants really make it! :)

A war memorial in Muskogee, OK, the USS Batfish was the first submarine to report sinking an enemy submarine, managing to sink three Japanese subs during a single mission. The captain and crew figured out how to maximize their radar advantage by prowling almost submerged, with the decks awash to minimize their rad cross section while leaving their radar mast above water and operational.

Well I see you're on this side of the country Austin! I like Swampy - amazingly I have never heard of that place. Hmm...
My family and I went to Orlando to visit the theme parks but I snuck off by myself for half a day. I picked the town of Christmas because it was on a secondary road and because I liked the name. This is some of what I found. It was a pretty sleepy place but I felt like I saw more of the real Florida in an hour than I had in days of Disney World. I wish I'd been there for the Orion launch. I'd have loved to have photographed that from the beach somewhere.
Cool, yeah the "real" FL is definitely not the theme parks!
My uncle is some sort of computer technician with a major aerospace firm, and I've been invited to a few launches (front row seats!) but I'm always working or engaged on the date! Except once, and then it was cancelled due to weather! I really hope to see a launch sometime.

Yup. Also accidentally inverted when I scanned it. Can't wait to make some prints. The best part was I had totally forgotten about that frame, as I shot that roll over the span of a few months.

In the EV range of 5-8. The shutter speed was at the edge of where I'm comfortable hand holding with the rz67. The sun had just gone down in the desert so there was still some ambient light but it was fading fast.
I'm normally not a huge fan of grain, but there is something wonderful about the way Delta 3200 renders low light situations. Plus it prints really well too.

I agree. I love Delta 3200 in 120. I shoot it in 6x6 in my Yashicamat where at EI 3200 it makes the f/3.5 lens pretty workable for a lot of available light, and in my Mamiya 645 Pro with the 80mm 2.8. It would be an awesome combo with the Mamiya 1.9!

I have received word that this bug (a '62 or a '64 depending on who you believe) is in fact still a driver. I liked the way it's upper "lip" is curled in a sneer. You can almost imagine a cigar hanging there: "What're you lookin' at?".

I know a master body man, who found a 356 Porsche smashed, rusted, really bent, completely stripped, upside down in a Chicago alley, as his apprenticeship to his fathers shop, I watched him return it to as new condition. It was amazing. The shop regularly restores or repairs Ferrari, Rolls, and any valuable vehicle. They have a sign, 'We do not work for insurance company rates.' I bought 2 immaculate motorcycles from them.

Please, I so dearly miss this type, style, year of automobile, it hurts to see one, even in a photograph. We used to have wonderful, fun and imaginative rides, with big seats.
Nice shot! Fins forever! I also like the 4 exhaust pipes coming out of the bumper. Made the chrome sooty and pit, but we are supposed to wash and wax these every week. By hand... :( :)
Nice shot! Fins forever!
Thanks.
No fins on this one though. Same shooting specs as the last picture.

That old DeSoto was a REAL car! Yeah, I know they were built like tanks, but they really rode well. I miss them, but can live with my little VW TDI Jetta. It would be fun to have one for the weekend drives, though. :)

I knew a guy who could do wheelies on the street with one of these, circa 1967.
I also know another guy with a yellow paint job Nomad. Not fond of his yellow.
I prefer cars from 1967, which was a very good year for many different cars. 1968 started the decline.

FP4+, rolleiflex, yellow or orange filter, pyrocat hd. Two of the photos on the roll had the exact tones I wanted; this is one of them. Objectively I should be happy to get a couple keepers from the roll, but I've done better in the past with the same scenes/camera/light and tmy2. So I sold the rest of my rolls of FP4+, as I get highlight tones the way I want with tmy2 more often probably on account of more familiarity. I still like fp4+ as sheet film though.

Austin, these last images are really excellent.
I like that light on the two benches photo! A magical mix of sun and fog probably.
This was the day after Saturdays storm I was walking in for the previous photo. Sunday afternoon I wandered through the woods instead. Amateurs are advised to have the sun to their back, but incidence metering makes it easy to break the rules. I have to follow the sun to get back to my house efficiently, no compasses or trail markers here. Fallen trees in the foreground, beams of light on the snow, and vertical tree trunks is a proven composition setup for me, and I know to stop and photograph.

It's sort of Eliot Porter meets Paul Caponigro goings on here. It's less about composition and more about simplicity and what else it might be. Mr Porter missed out on perhaps the best season in Maine.
It was so cold and windy and blowing snow at the beach when I was taking this (and several other nice photos) that the lick-paper-wrappers on my rolls of film were not sealing as they were freezing before they could adhere. I can operate a rolleiflex in all ways (except for reloading) with gloves on. The metal taking lens hood/shade accessory is great because it keeps snow off the lens and gloves out of the picture. I'll get a few more photos up from the outing within the week. I had a great time. it was too windy for LF though.

Thanks Tuco. Yeah, I still remember the scene in "The Birds" where some poor victim has his eyes pecked out. It sticks with me. I don't think that's why I keep photographing crows though. They're just interesting birds, and also fit in with the sort of gothic alternative universe that I seem to be creating with my pictures. Someone else called this one "Hitchcockian" this morning:

I developed this using caffenol, and it was my first ever development! I used my Pentacon Six TL with its Pentacon Zeiss 80mm 2.8 lens, and a light meter app on my galaxy Note 3. This is my son after I had him drape himself with these articles I had around the house. It was a matter of seconds to set up and shoot, as he was very angry at me for doing this, but, he ended up not caring, and to being excited and proud after he saw the developed negative! It was a fun adventure, and moment! I can't wait to give it another go, as it has been months since that time, and my developing attempt!

Great shot prrcurz. First for a lot of things. First mother's sniff to be forever etched in her brain and no doubt what the calf is seeing pointed at him for the first time too.
Attempted a long exposure as I could could get on such a sunny day to erase people walking around.

This picnic table is about a quarter mile down stream from where it was originally. It's slowly been tossed along the bank when the river floods and I've been finding it in new locations every time I go hiking.

http://www.oceanstarproductions.com/photosharing/bessaii-1206-12x18ss.jpg
As an aside, these Bessa folders are a little weird with their film chamber. It's pretty much a true 9cm on the long side, but still 56mm on the short, so even wider than nominal 3:2 ratio. Vertical shots are therefore a bit wonky looking without cropping a bit down to 3:2.
