Great tuco!
My wife and I spent the weekend on a farm that we recently found on AirBnB, to celebrate a personal achievement. It's a really amazing and cozy cabin with a plethora of animals to see where you can just relax, or walk around, etc. These two bulls were patient subjects and I love how they lined up in a way that reminds me of an album cover:

The next morning, thick fog rolled in for sunrise. I trudged through a field with tall grass that positively soaked me with dew, and dodged cowpies to get to a pond I saw in the distance prior. Also had to go through a gate that they probably didn't want people going through...but made this image with the 80mm Planar:
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXT9-mdSC7iyeT9tKMh-3Ap5ZkTRKNwxYb3YPvVhP_CTiTtUcnaV4xFHFOiEsT5NIOW569Y0fVEOm9nJdCHJiuGKFKryeB5Yfscchz6fBEVp-QTnI_4s3N4v424vRCqRQQxCYpYJnCbs3pYrbEp19pgT5E17Mz59layDGBIybHBSeePTNbkLtQ1mN4/s850/farm-8948s.jpg
The fog was so thick most of my images were almost a complete white-out. This one was the best of them, with some subtle cloud/sky in the upper and lower right.
Another one, but with foreground. Which do you like better, simple and very high key or foreground interest with more shadows? I cropped this one a tiny bit.

Thanks Rick and mono! Rick, I'll probably print both. I think they are an interesting pair, with the tree in solitude vs. The same tree surrounded by grasses that play off its form and tonality, just from a shift in perspective. Reminds me of some people I know who have come into my life.

From my viewpoint, the second one has more to say. The first has its minimalist affect, but the second offers counterpoint. The relationships among the reeds, the reeds and their reflections, these and the tree and fence, and with the reflection of the tree, all withe the gentle tonal undulation of the mist -- this gives the mind more about which to muse.
Great tuco!
Thanks. That is a sweet shot and composition of those cattle.
Thank you for your thoughts Philip! And thanks tuco. I really like the cattle and I think it will appeal to some of the folks I see at festivals visiting from the west, even though it was shot in GA.

Thanks CB. An interesting thought on the cropping.
Today was day one of a local festival celebrating southern Appalachian culture and music, where numerous groups of people will come together and jam to bluegrass standards on our historic square. The first couple shots off the scanner:

I have not, unfortunately, as that was the first time I've been there (about a week ago). But yes, there were many statues, sculptures and so on at the site, but this one definitely stood out.

I apologize, I forgot I posted these!
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it greatly. I, too, like the first better and can see the difference in style could detract from them as a pair. Frankly, I find I need to work toward developing a style that will bring more consistency and provide a thread, if you will, to pull my work together. Unfortunately, I am a gear addict and depending on my mood will produce a potpourri of negatives that have to stand on their own!!
Again, thank you, Philip!
Ulophot may have point, depending upon what the poster's intent was. I guess I'd print it more like this, consistent with the striking first image.

Thank you, John!
The increased contrast does fit the subject better and helps, IMO, to provide connection to the previous image. I really need to spend more time here to see and learn , and hopefully continue to draw on the talent of the community.

You can see the reflection in the lower part of the gas tank of a 12x16" softbox on one flash. The flashes are 80-100 GN units and don't have enough power to work with larger softboxes or translucent sheets, except for tight close-ups. For this shot the softbox flash is on the floor at the left about 30 degrees away from straight on. The main small flash is to the right at about 60 degrees. A zoomed flash is behind the front wheel to the right and another is high and to the left, also zoomed. It's a motley crew of units: Nikon SB14, Vititar 285, Vivitar 283, and two Nikon SB700s, triggered by Pocket Wizards or optical slaves.

The Wild Cat bridge is in Oregon. If you travel to Iowa you can find "The Bridges of Madison County" and maybe see Clint Eastwood hanging around?
You an also visit John Wayne's birthplace and home. He is from there. Not very far East you can visit the house that is the setting for the painting AMERICAN GOTHIC.

Beneath those rugged elms, that yew-tree's shade,
Where heaves the turf in many a mould'ring heap,
Each in his narrow cell for ever laid,
The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep.

Strong image but also the mottling of the smoky haze is intriguing. How did you do that? (Or is it just a display artifact?)

Looks like a humidity/backing paper issue.

I didn't do anything on purpose. It was undeveloped for 2 years, and my hands DID get a bit sweaty putting it on the reel in the dark bag. The roll AFTER this was basically ruined due to my sweaty hands/arms.
Can I post a digital pull-back shot of this scene? I don't want to get in trouble with the mods.

To shoot this image of Connell's Hardware sign, I was crushed up against the front glass window, in order to shoot at this obscure angle with tripod. The Fuji GX680 100mm F4 optics, transplanted into a recessed Plaubel Peco Jr lensboard, then onto the Plaubel Makiflex Standard body. Ilford FP4+ 6x9cm Makina rollfilm, processed in Legacy Mic-X straight and replenished. Scanned on an Epson 4490 scanner
The GX680 100mm F4 is a great lens on the Std Maki, but only for closer shooting, the rear group focuses to infinity, but unfortunately strikes the mirror, so the camera won't fire. But it works great for closer-in shooting and WOW it's wide on a Maki!
According to Plaubel back in the day, 125mm was as wide as you could go with Makiflex. Not so with modern Fuji optics

Shot this back in 2014 of the Georgia Guidestones. If you haven't heard (not sure if it's "national" news or not) at 4am this morning some kind of explosive device positively decimated one of the main stones, and they just this evening knocked the rest over, I guess because they were unstable. Kind of crazy.

Camera was Plaubel Makiflex Standard, lens is Bausch and Lomb Super Cinephor 159.1mm F2.0. A movie theatre projection lens intended for projecting 35mm and 70mm movie film in cinema houses. Film back is Graflex RH-50 18 shots bulk loaded. Film processed in D23 1:1 12 minutes at 74F in single reel Paterson dev tank. RC 8x10 print Arista #2 Matte developed in Multigrade. Omega DII laser aligned 180mm black Rodagon lens. Camera was handheld at the Makiflex Standard's top speed of 1/125. I really like the "look" I am getting with this extremely unusual lens. It's quite a heavy rig so I get a gym workout to boot. I am really diggin' all this 70mm stuff at this point. 18 6x7 exposures fits into two Vue-All 70mm pages when cut into threes.

Thirty years ago I studied Tim Kelly's portrait techniques. Now I am revising and revisiting it in my smaller studio. A Broncolor C171 monolight with modern 360 degree Broncolor Balloon Head at 90 degrees left. Another C171 with Pulso Softbox at 45 degrees left, set one stop brighter. A whitish fill panel semi silver at 45 degrees right, just out of the shot Finally, a smaller C70 Broncolor Monolight, with custom made old Broncolor snoot and grid, 45 degrees right but up very high, creating the spot of light just to the right and slightly above the test subject. The idea is that the righting reads "dark, light, dark, light" which creates an artististic rhythm that is very classic. Hasselblad EL/M with 100mm f3.5 T* black Planar, Hasselblad YG filter, Ilford Pan F+ developed in D23 1:1 in JOBO tank on Unicolor Uniroller. Omega DII laser aligned with Omegalite Head and 180mm black Rodagon. Arista #2 RC 8x10 paper developed in Multigrade. Wonderful Gabe,
I’m waiting for my R72 filter to arrive. How do you compensate for this filter , just an extra 5 stops or ….
Thanks Patrick.
From my experiments with it 4 stops compensation from box speed seems to be the sweet spot (at least with this film/dev combo), although if it's an important scene I would advise bracketing as the IR light will vary depending on location, elevation, weather, time of year and so on.
A friend of ours' husband is a well-known blues musician in the area, and he played a small show last night here in town. I have some Ilford 3200 I needed to use so I loaded up a couple of rolls in my Pentax 67ii, which miraculously decided it would start working again (the meter has been on the fritz for a couple of years). This was a good sign, and I decided I wanted to try some experimental double-exposures. This venue is themed after tree roots (the stage is in the basement) and this gave me the perfect material to work with.
Pentax 67ii, 165mm f/2.8, Ilford 3200 rated at 2500 (two exposures at -1) and dev'd in Acufine stock for 9 minutes:

Great shot Bryan. Back in the day, I shot a lot of concerts (The most challenging being the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, where I couldn't use any artificial light). But I never got anything as good as this!
Thank you Michael! I loved doing orchestra and theatre shots back in the day, especially BTS-style - though I usually used digital making it much easier with little or no light!

Depth of ifeld is extremely limited in this setup, but the central buds of the flowers are sharp near the center of the print. This olde film has a softness that I like. Looks vintage and now retro

This is the Makiflex Automatic with 240mm chrome barrel Schneider Tele-Xenar, a 2x3 lens that I have not used much. Graflex RH-50 70mm back 6x7cm/18 exp. Kodak Aerographic Plus-X 2402 type II perfed, developed in Paterson five reel tank with custom twin 70mm reels. D23 1:1 12 minutes at 73F produces a beefy negative easy to print. 8x10 Arista #2 RC developed in Multigrade. Omega DII laser aligned 180mm black Rodagon, I like using the Makiflexes in the studio with my olde Broncolor strobes. Classic Kelly lighting. Depth of field is extremely limited in this setup, but the central buds of the flowers are sharp near the center of the print. This olde film has a softness that I like. Looks vintage and now retro
