Thank you David. 1945 D-18
Just returned yesterday from over a week in Idaho visiting family I haven't seen in decades and exploring around the Boise area. Here's the first photograph hot off the scanner.

Phone? I've noticed a newer cell phone from work doesn't seem to like my images. Works fine on all desktops I've tried though. On the phone, copying and pasting the link works. Strange...but that's HTML5 for you I guess.

yet still do not see them on this recently updated WIN 10

Corran, Very good images. I have a miniature Crown Graphic with a couple of good 100/105 lenses and also the 65/8. Excellent combo to carry when flying.
Thanks rfesk. Yep, I really like the Century for travel. I usually bring two - one dedicated to my 38mm XL ultrawide, and one for 65/105/180 lenses.
Here's one with that 38mm, on the banks of the famous Snake River south of Boise:

I am surprised that a Super Angulon can fit in a 2 by 3 Graphic. Very nice images, by the way. Was there a lot of smoke haze? The sky looks light given the red filter.
Thanks all. mmerig, the SA 65mm is the very small f/8 version, so it's not large at all.
I think the smoke from wildfires was cleared a bit after a rain several days before but the sky was still not particularly transparent I don't think.

Bruneau Sand Dunes
One of my favorites from you--hope it prints big for you if you're making the circuit in the upcoming year.:)
Thanks! It was interesting having the big lake next to the dunes. Everything got cancelled this year and has been moved to 2021 so hopefully I'll have a festival or two. I'm seeing this one in a more 3:1 composition - take off a bit at the top perhaps.
PS: Bruneau is apparently the tallest single dune complex in the country.

Ha, for once I'm not for cropping--I think symmetry is the name of the game here, with the sky playing an important structural element...the cloud deck works so much better than if you'd only a clear sky to work with. I'll be interested in others' input.
I'll have to see how it looks on the baseboard! :)

I agree. The darkening of the sky along the top helps to complete the image. I'd say, don't crop, it's very interesting as it is.

You fared better than I. I stopped there for a night once, with high hopes. Went over to the dunes with the dog and the wind picked up to probably 30+ mph. Back to the campground. There was only one other camper there, arrived early for a star party. He insisted the dog and I visit him in his trailer and, when he found out I knew some math, regaled me about Fourier series and astronomy for well over an hour!

I'm slowly putting together a 10-year series of The Living and The Dead. This 2012 shot was taken on a dull, overcast day. So I scanned it in color mode. But this shows the shifting sands and how much taller the trees were compared to the 2020 color version I recently posted.

That's a wonderful tableau--one of the best photos I've seen here at LFPF. (If you were shooting that pig of a camera handheld, you deserved to walk away with all the Rocky Mountain oysters you could stuff in your pockets...or is that "prairie oysters" up your way?:))

Love the contrast on that one tuco!
I shared the negative scan of this image a couple weeks ago, but here is an 11x14 print I made last night, on Ilford Galerie G3 paper. I generally compose to the format but this one I definitely envisioned as a ~4:5 crop from the start, with the log coming in from the corner. I haven't taped the mat shut so it's got a little shadow on the top, apologies.
https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zUU2f-A5Q_A/X7xhf1ZHvjI/AAAAAAAANKk/AOg4GZCNaaIKyMcvGgez5yxmgopwDWXRwCLcBGAsYHQ/s900/20201123_201839.jpg
I think I'm going to make a 20x24 print of this as well. It would be the first 120 negative I've printed that large, I think.
Love the contrast on that one tuco!

Nice shot Tuco! Was that about 20 years ago? My wife and I stayed in a vacation rental they have in the back in 2005. It's the Bartlett House, one of the many historical houses in Port Townsend. My pictures show about 5 years more growth on the landscaping plants.

Yes indeed, first time I've been to what could be considered the "Rockies."
This morning, Thanksgiving, I woke up to extreme fog. I grabbed my Diana F+ and 38mm lens with a roll of FP4+ and went into the woods behind my property. Found this old logging road:

Bryan, I find the second one exceptionally good.
Thanks. Yeah I'm leaning towards that one now due to the nice spindly limbs that are especially "nervous" looking from the slight blur induced by the toy camera lens. A little late for Halloween I guess, but suitably "spooky" for those into that :).

Beautiful tonalities Paul! Kudos! Any general comments on the developer? My standard has been PMK and Pyrocat. Love the tonal scale in that one.
Thank you Greg. I too use PMK a lot and like it immensely. Although BER49 (the same as Atomal 49, or so I'm told) is not a staining developer, in a way the resulting negatives are a bit like that: they have a rich, lively middle gray range, and highlights are subdued and full of detail. The overall effect is a richer tonal scale and no detail gets lost. I don't think it has the enhanced edge effect of Pyro, but I like everything else it does. Just be aware that its a slower, solvent type developer and it performs best at 75F. Even at that temperature, Tri-X took 14 minutes to develop using BER49 at 1:1 Something to bear in mind. Also, its $$$ compared to most other developers: $22. for powder to make 5 liters.

I was at f/16 I believe, 15 second exposure. The white in the water is this foamy stuff that happens sometimes, maybe because of the tannin in the water, I'm not sure. The bottom was swirling a bit more so you can see it blurs, but the main section was hardly moving.

Today I went out to a remote and not very well-known archaeological site, where a Native American settlement from around 1000 A.D. is located. There's a lot of mystery and rumors around this site, and some outlandish claims regarding its inhabitants, but I won't get into that. What I did do was bushwack pretty far into the woods to find this site and explored about half of the area, where rock walls, terraced agricultural areas, and other interesting remains are found in all directions. I didn't quite make it, but apparently there is evidence of a central raised ceremonial area at the head of the settlement area. Next time.
A couple of photos. Here is a stone pile I found that bears a strong resemblance to the burial piles I have seen at nearby Native American historical sites:

And here is the remains of a stone wall separating terraced crop areas:

Ha, Nacoochee Valley?:) At any rate, even in "historical" times there was much to-ing and fro-ing there along the Savannah River as first the Westoes (Iroquoian-speaking refugees from the Great Lakes) and then the Shawnee (the eponymous "Savannah's) took up the role of Charles Town's buffer state with Spanish Florida, each tribe having aspirations of solidifying its position as a "middle man" for trade goods passing to and from the backcountry, especially as part of the burgeoning Indian slave trade.
Nearby there, I'll message you.

There is a 40x60 shed on our property that has an overhang on the back side. Dad always used to stash stuff he didn't know what else to do with back there, and I've kind of avoided that area since inheriting the property. The other day I was poking around back there and found this. It's a high chair that probably dates back to the 40s. I'm trying to decide whether I should try to clean it up and restore it. Shot with a Hasselblad 500CM with the 80mm Planar on Bergger Panchro 400 developed in Rodinal 1:25.

What years were you there and can you say what you were involved with? I was there from 72 to 74 while in the Air Force, stationed at Fort Meade, working for NSA.

My high chair was just like that one.
If you folded the lower legs forward and up, the whole thing turned in to a "car".
You can see one of the wheels on the left hand side at the back just above the footrest.

Thanks, I've been using Speedotron studio lights mostly - soft boxes for the chrome and spots for the engine detail. Black cloth background and white cloth foreground. I test the lighting with a digi-camera and then put my Hasselblad in place. On trips out of country I've pared it down to using a bunch of Vivitar battery-powered flashes to get a reasonable travel weight. Just for fun, drill down through "motorcycles" on my website to a set of pictures of how to shoot motorcycles with hot lights, studio flashes or battery flashes. The battery flash approach is most affordable.

What a beauty! When I was a lad (16years old) I started work for British Steel, one of the old guys rode a Panther to and from work. He also sometimes towed a trailer with it. Myself and a handfull of other motorbike mad apprentices used to watch the old guy kick up his bike whilst waiting in the queue to clock out. The man used to tickle the carb, wind the kickstart onto compression and then take a mighty swing with his steel toe capped foundry boot. The bike always started first kick, we loved the sound of the engine it fired about the distance of every street light as he rode away into the distance. Thank you for triggering a memory.

Thanks for the story. These 650 cc singles were generally attached to sidecars or trailers. Funny you should mention "firing at every street light" - that's a common saying associated with these machines.

In my minds eye I can still see the old guy riding off, he wore a WW2 naval gunners overcoat, flat cap and pilots goggles. He always lit a Woodbine cigarette and stuck it in the corner of his mouth before he set off. I can only assume that he did not go very fast if he was able to smoke whilst riding. You don't see many Panthers here in the UK now, when I was young they were quite common, as you say they were a favourite side car hack.

I've just deleted almost all my social media accounts, but my photos are on my web site so I could link to them if that would work.
Can you post the code snippet?
Later: OK, I think I've figured it out, I link directly to my site and uncheck "Retrieve remote file and reference locally". Also make sure you include the "http://" or it won't recognize it as a link and you just get text.

Ha ha, thanks Maris.
Nice dramatic sky there eh? Red filter?
Man the days I've spent schlepping my 4x5 gear around up in that high country. It really is fantastic for landscape photos up there, especially with the fast-changing light. As you may remember I used to live in Canberra so it was just a short drive to the mountains for me back then. Now it's a lot longer but I hope to go back there next September.

That is really cool, Austin...
My immediate response is to do a tight crop to the most heavily damaged area...
...but I've been looking at Brett Weston and Merg Ross books recently. :)
Thanks, Dugan. I made a few variations, but decided I liked including the blackened ground for context. Also, someone pointed out to me that with the windows for eyes, the church looks like it has a sad face. Or maybe relieved; tragically, much of the town of Malden was destroyed in this fire.

Nice shot Roberto.
Thanks everyone.
Alan, some just come out better than others. My scanner has auto focus. So maybe it works better sometimes. To get DOF with that GSW690 (65mm lens), I stop down to f16 all the time and use the same travel tripod. So that's the same with 80% of pictures with that camera. As far as scanning, I can't say what other people do. But you can adjust the contrast curve in the scanning software for a final output or you can scan for adjusting the curve in an image editor. I scan a flat, low contrast file grabbing all the density off the negative the scanner will do. I spot-heal dust and any scratches in Photoshop (also apply any toning) and do the final curve adjustments and any cropping in Lightroom.

I passed by that tree every day for many months. It was always interesting. Then one day they cut the corn plants all around and it was even more intriguing. Light wasn't perfect that day but I like the shot.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, it's nice to get such feedback on the shot. The yashica is a nice camera, there's something about it that inspires me to take nice photos. I'd love to try one of the mamiyas some time.
Tuco, so much detail in that phone booth photo. Nice job on not getting the camera in the reflection.
