A number of years ago, a group of coworkers and I had a weekend outing at one of their cottages. We played golf, cards, had great food, and really enjoyed each others' company. On Sunday morning, we got an early start, since some of the guys wanted to go fishing. The back deck faced one of the lakes at Sugar Springs. I set up an RB67, catching dawn and a couple of fellows heading to the boats. This was done on Kodacolor Gold 100.
Even though I made specific recommendations to the printer, I was never really happy with the picture. Earlier this year, I scanned the negative with an Epson V850, and edited on Adobe Elements 15. The film actually had a lot of latitude, so there wasn't a lot to do with it.

Nice Dennis, my dad used to have a place in Sugar Springs on one of the golf holes. Nice vibe there.
Very nice.. I'll be ready in 7 years for the eclipse.
Thanks. Yes, catch the event if you can. It's worth it. Play some Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon during the event too. Someone was blasting that out their car next to me and it's amazing how well it goes with the eclipse.

I personally would recommend atom heart mother and 'heart of the sun' - it was stuck in my head all day and I loved it.
Silence is also nice. =)

Mrportr8 -- Fine capture of a fleeting moment.
When I see the term "capture" it brings to mind a frame capture from a video or still from cine film. That is not how I approach photography and while I take no offense as I have seen on this forum I'd like to see us all use terms like: compostion, interpretation, rendition, photo etc. I do appreciate that you meant this as a compliment and I do thank you.

Thanks. There was a lot of smoke in the air but overall it did feel like late summer to me. I wish you could see the three kids (to the left of the trees) better. They really make the picture I think.
Nice tuco - for a minute, I thought the chairs were in shallow water. Perhaps all the images of submerged things in the news lately is in my brain :(.
Austin, thanks for pointing out the 3 boys! I did not see that. I agree it makes the photo really engaging, especially the near-far relationship between them and the barren trees. I don't see that as much with such thick forested land here. Also, is that a bird swooping down on the far right of the image? A lot going on if so!

Yeah, Austin, I didn't notice those kids until you pointed it out. They certainly put the scale of those trees into better perspective.

One take away lesson I learned from the eclipse was take time to smell the roses. I was messing around with camera gear too much to really take in the moment. I freaked out when it got dark and I forgot my headlamp back in the car. I couldn't read my camera dials or exposure scale on the spot meter. I lost my composure. It's a miracle I got my picture at all. But I hear the next totality will be up to 4:00 minutes which is a big help.
Tuco, the chairs photo is great. Not just technically, but it's often what we want in our mind when we plop down in a chair outdoors at the end of a day (as pictured).
These are at Step Falls, Newry Maine in July.
I took the same photo last year with my daughter posing. The foot prints, shapes, light, tones will always be different.

This one is sort of a blend of inspiration from Arthur Wesley Dow's Notan teaching + Ralph Steiner's famous h2o film. (Steiner was a student of Clarence White, who also utilized the teaching of and worked with Dow)
I like that second one Jason. Very abstract, it took me a moment to see the water.

Your Delta looks good tuco. I never much liked that film, but I haven't shot it in ages. I think part of my dislike, way back when I shot it, was simply my unfamiliarity with it. I like the tunnel image a lot - the ambiguity of the dark faces is almost creepy.

The stars and planets must have been in some kind of special alignment or something. That's the best results I've ever had from Delta at EI 3200 developing. I want to do more of it. But watch it be a fluke.

Thanks. In regard to the Delta 3200 shots perhaps the film just took me there. The film feels like it has a big, rounded shoulder and it looks like I'm only getting about ISO 1600 out the film with my developing. I metered for ISO 3200 but the middle gray looks to be placed lower than I expected. But I dunno.

Trying out RPX 25. I used Rodinal 1+50 @ 11 min per the box. Over cooked.
I purchased from Freestylephoto.biz where they say, "Anti-curling layer ensures optimum flatness". LOL. The negatives curled up so bad the archive sleeve the negatives are stored in twisted up into a tube. And it was a wrestling match to get a frame into the negative carrier.

Excellent result tuco! The surface of the cubic structure to the right is well rendered.
Yeah, nice tones, sharpness, and composition. Too bad about the curl! I can't stand that. I think I have a roll of that a rep gave me to test but I haven't shot it...
I was up in South Carolina a couple of days ago and visited Table Rock State Park. Really nice place, lots of potential. Will need to go again and see more of it.
Here's a shot along Carrick Creek. Taken with my 2x3 Century Graphic, 80mm f/2.8 Xenotar, on Acros 100 dev'd in Pyrocat:

Cool photo Tuco. It looks blazingly sharp. Sorry about the curling. Sometimes I have to squash my sleeved negatives (usually FP4) under a heavy book for a couple of days to flatten them.

Thanks Pali!
Here's one from a recent hike. I was cursing myself for carrying two film cameras, a tripod, and a can of wine up there (along with more essential stuff) but I like the way this one turned out:

Thanks, you guys. Like the other Rollei film's I've tried, it will flatten out more with time but much too long of a time to be practical for me.
Bryan, that Xenotar is serving you well. And I dig that shot, Austin.
Thanks Pali and tuco.

That's right, Fort Rock. It is interesting. I understand that most of this area was once covered by water and that Fort Rock would have been a kind of atoll. There were Native American sandals discovered in a cave near there that date back many thousands of years.
On this day, it was quite cold-the seasons are definitely changing!

Why is it that I always know a Granger image before I read the credit line? I want to be him when I grow up.
I know Austin Granger and Ken Lee photo before reading any words too.
This is in a new preserve within walking distance of my house. It started pouring rain about ten minutes after this photo, but I was able to stash my Rolleiflex in my daughter's backpack to keep it dry. I like the way the background renders, the various dark tree shapes, the light tones and shapes of the rotting tree, the textures throughout. Essentially every inch of the photo is contributing to the whole in some way. I kinda know how the tones will come out as tmy2 is the only B&W film I use in the Rolleiflex and I shoot plenty of woods with it.

Went camping for the better part of 3 days this weekend with two other couples. The others were not much for hiking so I went out exploring in the woods. This scene I found way back off the beaten path. The mist settled in and it was quite a beautiful scene with the gently flowing creek.
Beautifully seen and captured Bryan. Love the glow from the mist.

Thanks Pali! I've got a roll of 220 Velvia to develop that I am excited about too...this color was late this year but it just exploded this weekend. Everything is hitting peak now and this week I need to push myself to shoot every day to capitalize on the color...

I see you are printing down deeper and its IMHO quite an improvement, the highlights are glowing rather than sparking and there is enough shadow density to see and some lovely blacks..

I agree with Bob. That is very nicely done Bryan, with a beautiful range of tones and a good feeling of light. It's alive!

I recently visited Spirit Lake, near Mount St. Helens. These logs have been floating there since the eruption in 1980. If you look at pictures of Spirit Lake from before that time, you'll get a better appreciation of the magnitude of what happened here. It's an eerie place, but one that continues to have a pull for me.

I pulled off the freeway and doubled back for that sign. It was definitely an Austin Granger photograph, ha! As for the motel itself, I'm afraid I can't recommend it. I've stayed in plenty of cheap motels, but this one looked a little sketchy. Plus, I hear the $39 is only if you share a bathroom with another guest.

No problem Rich. I think Grainger with an i is more common. My grandfather actually changed his name from his birth name, which was "Gengler." I never knew him and he was a mysterious figure, even to my dad, so no one knows exactly why Granger, but in any case, Granger it is.

Somehow I am stuck in the middle on this image Tuco.. I think this is a case where you print very dark and let the dark shadow area on the rocks go black to hell with detail... but I have been known to be wrong.
Okay, I pulled the low values down to the point of having some areas out of gamut in the image.

City Lights - San Francisco.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4548/38566013971_364837563c_b.jpg
During the Thanksgiving to Christmas season many of the downtown office buildings are lined with lighting which, together with the lighting on the Bay Bridge, make for a spectacular night vista. The tall building immediately behind the port is Embarcadero 4 with the smaller EC 3,2, and 1 following. I shot this several years back on Acros with a Pentax 67II from Pier 14 - the scene of the Kate Steinle shooting of current notoriety.

I like the fire hydrant, Jeff. It makes me stare at it. I have a CF 100/3.5. I've been wanting to see what it looks like on a shot like yours. I've been reaching for my Pentax 105/2.4 for that task but I see the 100/3.5 works too. Was that wide open?

Thanks Tuco. According to my notes, that was shot at f/5.6. I was within a few feet of the hydrant, so the DoF was limited by both the focal length and the f-stop. I've learned the hard way that shooting close to a subject with that lens and wide open results in razor thin DoF. Even at f/8 and a close subject, you get some wonderful bokeh. The CF 100/3.5 is terrific glass. Some of Zeiss's finest work in my humble opinion.

Okay thanks. Those tombstones pictures I did back on page 339 were at f2.8 with my 105/2.4. I got enough DOF to cover the depth of the tombstone and enough of the flowers.

Several firsts for me. Used +1 filter with the '34 Super Ikonta A after cutting strings the right distance for lens setting at minimum and infinity established with ground glass held on the back.
First time I've used Rodinal and the first time I've used stand development 1:100, 1.5 hr. 1 inversion at 0.5. I re-visited the cemetery in Bonham TX to shoot a test roll of PanF.

Thanks you guys.
Peter: Yes, I used a one-degree spot meter. This scene I placed the grass at the bottom of the frame 3 stops below the middle grey. I over exposed the roll and under developed it to compress the highlights. It's always rewarding to see how much of the high values you end up capturing.

I ran across this when swapping-out the stereo receiver. It's a 6x7 B&W reversal that I made from Kodak 100 TMax a while back when I was learning the process. Dusted it off a little and scanned it without a mount so its not perfectly flat on the scanner which doesn't have a 6x7 film holder. Taken from an overlook of Sutro Baths in San Francisco.

That's nice. When I started developing my own, I wanted to try that BW reversal but never did get around to it for some reason.

That's nice. When I started developing my own, I wanted to try that BW reversal but never did get around to it for some reason.
I used David Woods (DR5) recommendations in the 3d edition of the Darkroom Cookbook and used Kodak D-11 as the first developer. The dilution was misprinted as being 1:3 which gave crappy results. After some experimentation it turned out to be 3:1. Once mixed though, D-11 seems to have some staying power as I kept the unused portion in a less than full container for several days without ill effect. At the time I didn't have "concentrated" sulfuric acid and compensated for by adjusting the volume of the acid so that the mole volumes matched. This thread details my progress at the time: http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?125393-Reversal-Processing-with-D-11
I switched from shooting transparencies to negative film some time back which is lamentable as I kind of miss sitting back in a comfy chair in a darkened room with the stereo and projecting them onto a screen. Plus, I have the projection equipment and even the slide mounts already so I'm going to make it a point to "explore" with the 6x7 for B&W and the 645 for color transparencies and come back with the big cameras for the good finds.

I have fond memories of sitting around the living room with relatives watching the slide show when I was a child. It would be narrated by mom and dad and it was fun. Everyone seem to get involved. The projected images were large and colorful back then. I have that projector now and can look at old family photos. I imagine a medium format slide projector would really rock for a slide show.

It sure does! I bought the Pro Cabin 67Z from B&H but didn't get the optional 645 carrier for it. When I got the 645P I looked and looked for that carrier but couldn't find one so I bought a MF Rollei 66AV with a Heidosmat lens. The Cabin is manual so you have to feed it and the Rollei is auto with remote. I still have those projectors along with a 35mm Kodak AMT with the best projection Kodak ever made. This got me to thinking about traveling around SF and environs with Pentax soft focus lens on the 35 and MF cameras and creating a work to be accompanied by suitable music.

Nice series sheel and axelwik.
Nice work Sheel. That lens and film back make a great combination. I use the same combination with a Wista with great results.
Some nice work on this page!
Yesterday I shot some photos with my Linhof 70. I realized one of my film backs had a roll in it already, which turned out to be from last year (I kept using a different film back instead). This shot was from a trip to FDR State Park in west GA, taken w/ my 58mm XL:
