I was invited to share a large format film image and its back story with the dedicated folks at the Eastern Sierra Center for Photography. Here is my contribution. Thanks Laura.

That is just a beautiful image, would love to see the print in person sometime... Goes to show the combination of technical and artistic skills along with persistence and patience. Thanks for sharing this.

My initial thought was: "oh Lord, not another Ansel Adams/Paul Strand near/far western landscape.
I was wrong -- it is Beautiful. Thanks for posting it, (and making me feel like a jerk to myself, which is good for my ego every once in a while).

Kirk,

Are you selling prints?

Terry

Thanks for asking Terry, yes see: http://www.gittingsphoto.com/content.html?page=7 FYI I just sold three inkjet of this through the Albuquerque Museum "Miniatures" show at the prices listed.

For silver versions add $100-150 per print.

I know that it's probably pretty gauche of me to ask, but would you share the technical details on this image?
I ask, not because I want to emulate them, but because I shoot in Florida, and am curious about the kinds of stuff you use "out there" in The West. Is it something that's so big you need a wide-angle to capture, or so far away that a long focal length is necessary? That sort of thing. Please.
Thank you.

Wilhelm, If I remember right (I don't keep track of this info), f22 1/2 second, Schneider 305 mm G-Claron lens, B&W 040 Orange Filter, Ilford HP4+ 4x5, Pyrocat HD in Glycol-normal development.

Thanks, Kirk. It's sort of like reading Ansel Adams "40 Examples" about how he made the pictures and what were the problems, and what he was thinking about.
Always interesting and valuable, even though it may never have any direct application to my work. But then, you never know....
