Hello All,

I am requesting some help. I would like the ability to put filters on the Optar 135mm lens on my Graphic View camera. It's not threaded! What do you do?

Ideally, it would be best if I could use the various 35mm filters that I already own. Particularly the circular polarizing filters.

It looks to be about 38mm OD, which is a smaller diameter than my smallest 35mm lenses.

There are Kodak "series" filter holders that slip on over the front metal piece. I don't know what the series # is for that lens though.

Or find a step up filter that fits over the outside of the lens and wrap the inside with a rope of ATG tape. Push it onto the lens. Quite strong but removable. I've described this procedure here more than once so it may be searchable.

Looks like Series V filters would work. You can search the 'bay for push-on Series V adapters, they're not expensive. Typically your setup will be: push-on adapter + filter + Series V hood. When I'm using vintage lenses on 4x5, I carry around a little box that holds 2-3 adapters, 5-6 filters, and a hood.

If you know some with a machine shop just make one takes 1 to 2 hours on a lathe. IF you go to machine shop they will change around $150.00 not all machinist can make the thread.

Series 6 would be the proper size for this lens. You can also use Series 7 with the proper adapter or step-up ring from series 6. Series 5 might block some of the image in the corners. Most of the Kodak adapters were marked in inches, some in millimeters so have measurements in both when looking for an adapter. Good luck.

Great, thanks. I found what you're talking about on eBay, and it looks like it should work, if I can find one in right lens diameter.

I have an old speed graphic that came with the same lens and it also came with the adapter
the writing on the side says: "KODAK SERIES V1 ADAPTER RING 1 1/2 in - 38mm."

I think the previous owner must have taken it off and on a fair bit because it's hacked up the sides of the lens
I'd recommend mounting it once and just leaving it there to minimise that problem

addit:
the series VI thread is close enough to 44mm that I got a 44 to 49mm adapter off evil-bay so I could use the filters I already own
there's a lot of other adapter sizes available too

Slip-on series hoods and filters. Scroll down this page. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_filter)

You should measure the outside diameter of the lens. An inexpensive dial caliper (http://www.homedepot.com/p/General-Tools-6-in-4-Way-Dial-Caliper-142/100080103) is very helpful.

Series VI adapters only cost $5 or so dollars so seek one out on ebay rather than even thinking about having one machined.

That's what I was hoping to hear! That way I can use what I already have. I just found and ordered a Series 6 38mm adapter, so I'll see how it goes. Thanks.

Thanks to all for the Kodak Series adapter solution. I was able to find one, buy one, and not spend a lot of money. And it fits like a charm!
