I have been tracking Voigtlander Serial # information to be able to more precisely estimate manufacture dates. Here is my latest information: http://antiquecameras.net/voigtlanderlenses.html

Most sources state that about serial # 4000 (c.1852+/-), the words, "und Braunschweig" was added to the lens' engraving to signify Voigtlanders arrival in Brunswick, Germany. On ebay this week, Voigtlander # 3845 popped up with "und Braunschweig" engraved on the lens... Voigtlander # 3626 does not have "und Braunschweig" engraved, so we know this engraving change came between serial numbers 3626 and 3845.

Voigtlander # 3845 which has been chrome plated !! can be found here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Voigtlander-Sohn-5-5-inch-Estimated-4-75-x-3-75-inches-/151158566311?pt=UK_Photography_VintageCameras_SM&hash=item2331c0ada7

My Voigtlander Petzal has "Voigtlander & Sohn in Wien," and is No. 2942. I was hoping it was a bit older than 1849, but at least it's definitely still a Dag lens.
