It's amazing that a major company would not be ahead of the curve on updating it's Apple drivers?

Perhaps you are jumping to fast to lay blame. Epsons site gives instructions on updating for 10.9 Mavericks for the V700 and many other scanners.

That's only driver upgrade, and simple scanning from the OS instructions... We all still have to wait for a bit for their actual Mavericks scanning software :-(

No problems with the V750 and using Vuescan.

Thanks, yeah software update does not offer the new "Epson Scan", which I'm very used to and have many settings with. Then on Epson site, it says the new version is just not ready yet.

So are you claiming that the existing Epson Scan software won't work with the new version of the O/S ?

That's ridiculous. Even μ$oft is not that stupid... at least not often.

A company that's been making computer operating systems and other programs for a long time.

μ$oft = nerdy joke = Microsoft (μ = "micro" symbol--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro-)

I don't make 'em up. I just translate 'em.

The BEST sound card I'd ever had (until very recently) stopped working in the upgrade from Windows ME (I know!) to XP - a product of lazy development AND Microsoft. I was most annoyed at the time. At least Epson are saying they will have an update eventually...

I just updated to Maverick (OSX 10.9) and my Epson Scan does not work with the new OS.
Apple directs you to Epson, Epson directs you to Apple, but neither have the updated driver.
Epson has no definite date for the release of the updated driver, either.
I know I can use VueScan, but I prefer Epson Scan; if you do as well, don't upgrade to 10.9 until a new Epson driver is in place.

I never hop on an OS upgrade. They never have much now that I need. What I need is all my tools to work, all of them, day in and day out. What I rarely need is a new OS. When everything is working, I don't touch it. After about a year of seeing posts like this fade, and hours on line making sure every piece of software and hardware I have will now work with it, I may upgrade, but I'm usually a generation behind, and I'm not missing anything. Many of these upgrades offer nothing to enhance the performance of peripherals, but put companies that make them in the position of programming drivers for generations of products if the new OS is not compatible.
I constantly get calls a printer, or an app, or color management doesn't work, and my first question is did you do an update.
Sorry I am not addressing the specific problem here, but be wary of updates, and careful, and don't allow upgrades/updates automatically.

I agree with Tyler, I posted a thread on DPUG about this happening to me.

Problem is, I didn't even realize I was updating the OS it just told me like always I had new updates in the app updated thing, so I hit update all, I was half asleep and "chatting" with my GF in bed when it happened, hah!

She was like "why is the screen still on, by that time it had installed it and restarted, I didn't want to back out at that point, we all know you don't mess with a computer mid-install ...

That's what I get for being distracted by a woman! Lol

Also, apples "scan" software thing doesn't work with the V750/700 it seems to be for all in one printers to scan documents...

Apple still supports Snow Leopard..thats what i am using. I used to want the latest a greatest but as long as everything works and it works really great i will not change. I like taking pictures, scanning and printing. I read email and look info up on the web. Now i know there is more sophisticated users out there.... but not me.... I have worked on computers for 25 something years ..now retired... and i am really tired of fiddling with computers...i just appreciate my Mac Pro..it has never crashed, has never ever caused me any problems ...knock on wood.... so like a toaster if it works i am happy

Same here.

I've been using personal computers since ten years before the IBM PC was invented.

One thing I've learned in those years...

NEVER enable automatic upgrades for ANY software, period.

If a new version exists, investigate it to determine whether it works with your stuff, and whether you need it.

while you and i are on the same page leigh....apple system software is a little different. They normally do not need a virus protection program running in the background because once a weakness is detected apple send update to the your system to counter this. Normally this is not needed if you stay away from the porn sites...lol lol.... I worked in a large company as an administrator with Windows XP computers. One day just before i retired i had over 400 crash because of auto updating which i warned against... windows no ......apple yes under some conditions. i always read the particulars before i say yes

I really think this is unusual for Apple and Epson to be out sync on software like this.... give it a week or two or maybe three for the Epson people to jump on it. It takes a little longer for the for Devices to catchup to Apple because it is not just a driver that needs changing. But then again it does not take long...it is just fancy UNIX after all

Yes, once a weakness is detected, by infecting computers... perhaps yours.

One of the easiest ways to infect any UN*X system is to masquerade as a device driver, thus gaining
access to the OS at a higher and more privileged level than a regular program.
It can't access kernel level, but it's only one layer removed.

Every computer needs anti-virus software. I run Sophos on my MacBook Pro. No worries.

Upgrading your OS is fine, but there is one thing you must ABSOLUTELY do before upgrading. CLONE YOUR SYSTEM DRIVE!!!!!

On a mac you can boot from external hard drives so if there are any issues you can simply boot from your clone and keep working.

I run Saphos too, not just for me, but for the people I send files to.

Good idea, worth the $100 external drive.

yes i have a virus checker also.... but my scanning work computer is not connected usually to the web... i "turn it off the web" normally when i am working on photo.... i have an ipad for porn lurking and LF comments... i really love my ipad... you know most people want their computer to do everything....i have 4 computers that are specialised. Server, scanning, ipad ...and a computer for backup and mass storage...they all work together .... Apple has made my life so much simpler .... and my ipad was the most expensive of the 4 componets.....now if i can only get my scanner to work on my ipad darn.

I worked at Apples Genius Bar for five and a half years. In that time I saw only one virus for a mac. It was a trojan that you would get by going to adult websites, a popup would say you need to install this video codec to watch the video. It was no video codec but would mess up your internet preference files. Defeat those messed up preference files then restart the computer to force the machine to make new ones and you were fine.

Yes Apple quickly squashed it but the point is just be aware of what you are installing and you will be fine.

I had plenty of customers that would put virus protection software on their computer to be "safe" then they would come and ask why their computer is running slow. After disabling the anti virus software the computer would no longer run slow.

I'd rather not slow my computer down so i won't install anti virus software on my mac. Like I said just be aware of what you are installing and you will be fine.

Good idea, worth the $100 external drive.

Time machine backups are nice but you cannot boot from them. A bootable clone is also handy if your system drive goes down and you need to get a project done. Just boot from the external and finish your project.

Oh I have a time machine backup drive, a photo working drive, a backup clone of that photo drive, I just need another "clone" drive apparently for the main drive... Haha

I could restore the old OS but I like the new features, and I have a ton of film to develop anyway so I can focus on that and scan after :)

Unfortunately you made the same mistake I made earlier just because there is a web page for it does not mean it's actually on that page. If you expand those sections you will see this.

Thank you very much for that, Marc!
I too saw the same message this morning, and it said no updates were available, so I tried your direct link and it worked perfectly.
I'm surprised that Epson was actually on the ball on this one; a refreshing change.
