I'm looking for a long (say 2m throw) cable release for some discreet street work. Can anyone recommend something of good quality and where to purchase it?

Cheers,

Craig

Craig,

I have this one:

Works without a problem

Possible terminology problem...

The "throw" of a cable release is how far the tip moves when actuated, usually a few millimeters.

You just want a remote triggering device. In the 21st Century that would be a radio remote trigger.

Last millenium, pneumatic "bulb" releases covered long distances between the shooter and the camera.
Using one with a modern camera would require an additional fitting at the camera end.

Oops...your right Leigh...I've mixed up my terminology. I simply meant long cable release (far cheaper than the remote option). Cheers

Craig,

Actually a pneumatic shutter release can be quite useful. Just screw the piston into the shutter and run the tube to the squeeze bulb. Cut the rubber tube to fit your needs - you can't do that with a normal metal cable release!

I have a German one I bought for about $10 from an eBay seller.

The only thing I need to caution you about is lenses which are in recessed lens boards because the piston component may not fit. For those, you need a short woven cable release or "L"-shaped one. But that is often true for regular cable releases.

This (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/762112-REG/Dot_Line_DL_1496_Cable_Release_Extension.html) may be the answer for connecting air release to a recessed setup.

Exactly. That is what I meant by "a short woven cable release".

Thanks for the link, I need to get a couple spares.
