What is it? Part of a studio stand?

I got this part with some other iron parts of a Century Studio Stand. I was told this was part of the stand, but have my doubts. Anyone recognize this part and what it goes to? Antique carriage? Machine? It is around 3 feet long. It seems to have a black crinkle finish on it.
