Sort of weird off the wall question, doe anyone out there still fire up the 1280, I've got one but its been eions since I printed with it. I still have a laptop with the drivers installed I liked using the printer for catalogs inconjunction with a CIS....so can one still buy ink for these CIS's or not. I am sure I could find the answer Googling but was curious if anyone here still uses this printer.

I was reading on another forum the other day that a user still uses his 1280 when he wants vivid colours and very high gloss, which he claimed the 4xxx series of pigment-ink printers still can't achieve. Ink is still available. I have one downstairs that I'm going to resurrect just for fun.

I wouldn't suggest this printer was more capable than any other in the Epson line, certainly not at the high-end. This all has to do with choice of inkset, calibration and PhotoShop skills.

As far as the other forums go, I have been severely unimpressed with them. i wouldn't trust anything anyone said. Here, people have a reputation, they will often disagree but it isn't a free-for-all. You know you can trust what many of the more well known members here say. If its just an opinion they will usually say so, so there is a difference between "what I think I know" and "what I know". I have been reading a little at photo.net, mostly in the scanning forum, recently. I am stunned when I read a questions and then 17 truly uninformed and ridiculously wrong answers before someone who actually knows something speaks up. Thephotoforum is also, well I'll just be polite and say I wouldn't trust the opinions there.

There are some other good ones, to be sure. They aren't all bad, just most of them.
