I´m looking to restart a darkroom and searching high and low, for a 4x5” enlarger B&W.
I live in Denmark, but it seems that all I can get, is a Devere 504 (1300$)...
Any idears?

Kind regards
Nicholas

5x4 enlargers can be bought for arount half that price in the UK, sometimes less. I'm not sure what the shipping cost would be though. That would be one option.

I recommend a Fujimoto 450M, either a condenser model (450M-D) or dichroic colour head model (450M-C). It doesn't appear to be a very popular model and if you look hard enough (Tradera?), you can find it for a great price. One advantage of a 450M-C is that even if it doesn't come with a 4x5" mixing box, you can easily modify whatever mixing box comes with it to 4x5" with few sheets of styrofoam, a bit of acrylic glue and a 14x16 cm white opal Lexan sheet. Lens boards are easily available from one UK warehouse and can be modified to M50, M58 and M72 by adding lens flanges, if you intend on using 150mm and longer Rodenstock or Schneider lenses. Excellently built piece of equipment. Brand new version of 450M-C is called QE45 and sold under the Kenko brand.

I've seen a Devere 504 up close, and they are one of the most solid enlargers I've ever seen,
a bit of cash, but you might have trouble blaming the enlarger if the prints were bad :)

Any chance to find a Durst L1200? Wonderful machine.

Maybe try here www.enlarger.de

Try a Durst 138: you can easily enlarge the whole negative and you will be ready for the next step.:-)

If you are getting , neg carriers, lenses with this enlarger then go for it , these enlargers are new over $15k.
I use Devere 11 x14 and have used 8x10 and 4x5, they are solid well built machines.
the focusing is fantastic.
My big boy has a drop table and I can focus on the floor with the head in the air with no issue , best design for focusing of all the enlargers.
