There was a war of 1812 reenactment yesterday a few towns over from me and I thought it would be a good time to bring my Speed Graphic, bag of flashbulbs and 12 sheets of HP5 out for a walk.

Usually I feel invisable when carrying my TLR, but I've had nothing but comments about the speed yesterday. The older guys smiled and the middle aged guys with their DSLR's and 400mm leneses wanted to hold it. Everybody wanted to know what it was, when it was made and if you can still get film for it. Everyone was suprised when I told them that Kodak was still makign film. As I was switching flashbulbs some tall blonde and her brunette friend walked over and told me my camera was pretty cool looking. They say they saw that same camera in The Aviator and The Great Gatsby and wanted to see one in person. I even had them pose for a photo which I promised to email them.

Me thinks I should take this out to more events. :)

Not sure I've ever heard a better argument for LF photography.

Size does matter.

It's a common truth that a '12" Dagor' makes wonders if girls are concerned (unless they realise how small it actually is)... but didn't you feel somehow time-lapsed with your camera at 1812 war instead of camera obscura and a sketch-book?
